Job brief :
We are seeking a responsible Safety Health and Environment Officer to ensure compliance with occupational health and safety (OHS) guidelines. Your primary role will be advising on measures to minimize hazards and maintain a safe working environment. Vigilance in identifying violations is crucial.
The ideal candidate is a dedicated individual who strictly adheres to OSH regulations. Your focus will be on preventive measures, requiring attentiveness and proactive thinking. Detail orientated is essential, especially during emergencies.
Your objective is to establish a workplace that meets legal safety standards and cultivates a culture of prioritizing health and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and assess hazardous and unsafe situations hence make recommendations to management on how to avoid or mitigate these risks.
- Ensure that the workplace is safe and compliant with health and safety regulations. To participate in planning safety and health (and other) meetings to identify any health and safety concerns inherent in the operation’s daily work plan. The safety officer will work closely with the management team to develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures.
- Coordinate all site safety and health activities, including site inspections, accident investigations, safety training, and hazard abatement.
- Responsible for ensuring that all tools and equipment are adequate and safe for use. This includes checking that equipment is properly maintained and in good working order and that safety procedures are followed.
- Responsible for ensuring the workplace is safe and compliant with OSHA regulations. This includes arranging for mandated testing and/or evaluations of the workplace by external agencies/consultants.
- Assessments and enforcement of preventative measures. You will always be vigilant and take action whenever you see a potential hazard.
- Responsible for developing and implementing safety policies and procedures, conducting safety audits and investigations, and providing training on safety topics.
- Ensure that all employees and executives receive proper OHS training. This will include ensuring that they are aware of the potential hazards in their work environment and how to protect themselves from them.
- Maintaining clean and legible health and safety signs and notice boards in their assigned area. This is important to ensure that everyone knows the risks present and what they need to do to stay safe.
- Any other relevant duties that may not relate to this position shall be allocated to him/her.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree/Diploma in occupational health, safety, environmental health, public health or a related field.
- At least one year of Experience in a safety-related field.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of local environmental, health and safety laws
- Knowledge skills in First Aid
