TITLE: Resourceful Communities Local Food Resources Intern

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt – up to 37.5 hours per week, 600 hours maximum.
REPORTS TO: Local Food Project Manager

LOCATION: Chapel Hill, NC or remote in North Carolina
DURATION: January 6, 2025, April 25, 2025 – Dates are flexible. This 16-week internship is designed to be flexible for the right candidate; the intern will work between 20 and 37.5 hours per week, with a total maximum of 600 hours over the internship period.
JOB HIGHLIGHTS
We seek an energetic and flexible self-starter with knowledge and interest in local food systems, nonprofits, and organizational development to join our team! The Local Food Resources Intern will work under the guidance of the Project Manager to assist with projects and initiatives aimed at building capacity, enhancing resource access, and ultimately strengthening rural food access efforts across North Carolina.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

- Develop educational materials and resources for food pantries and farmers, including converting an existing toolkit into a website, and updating the Resourceful Grower Wix site.
- Help gather and analyze data to assess the effectiveness of farmer/grower resources and identify areas for improvement.
- Support landownership workshops and trainings for rural, underserved landowners
- Support food hub connectivity through resource sharing
- Develop database of university partnership opportunities for food-based work (i.e. research projects, student capstone projects, etc. and examples from RC network)
- Other work as assigned
WHAT WE NEED YOU TO HAVE
- Currently enrolled in or recent graduate from an accredited college or university.
- Strong interest in community development and local food access
- Dependability, initiative, and follow-through
- Strong organizational, task management, and time management skills
- Research skills
- Software: Microsoft Office, OneDrive
- Willingness to work cooperatively with a broad range of people
- Ability to travel
- Excellent organizational and multi-tasking ability
- Ability to work at a desk for prolonged periods of time
WHAT WE’D LIKE YOU TO HAVE
- Understanding of and experience with issues affecting limited-resource and rural communities and communities of color a plus
- Knowledge about local food systems, farming, and/or forestry a plus
- Experience with building basic websites (Wix)
- Experience with using Airtable a plus
- Knowledge or experience with non-profits a plus
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Ability to work at a desk for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to occasionally travel throughout rural North Carolina may be required, including some possible weekends and evenings. Trips will largely take place alongside programming staff. Incidentals, such as meals and lodging (if needed), will also be reimbursed.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This position pays $20/hour. (37.5-hour work week for a total of 16 weeks). This position does not include benefits.
