REPORTS TO: EHS MANAGER
Summary
Position is accountable for supporting the facility's EHS Environmental functions with a primary focus on administering the environmental program (ISO 14001). Assists with implementing and ensuring EHS compliance with local, state, and federal safety/environmental regulations while supporting required training for safety and environmental programs. Works directly with the EHS Manager and assists in the implementation of safety and environmental sustainability initiatives, training, programs, medical case management, incident investigation, hazard identification and mitigation. Takes an active role in the EMS committee while supporting the facilities Safety Committees.
Primary responsibilities
Environmental Duties:
- Responsible for administration of plant environmental procedures and documentation (ISO 14001)
- Ensure regulatory compliance of all local, state, and federal laws and submit required data to third party for preparation of regulatory reports.
- Develop and implement planned projects to achieve Company and Facility sustainability objectives.
- Update ISO metrics tracking spreadsheet, graph & trend data in relation to facility-specific goals, and timely report data monthly to Senior ISO Specialist.
- Routinely review environmental Standard Operating Procedures and conduct plant-wide audits to ensure compliance.
- Champion the ISO 14001 program, helping to lead facility Committee and Team meetings.
- Prepare, administer, and track annual environmental training (ISO general awareness, waste, SOPs, etc.)
- Partner with Production, Materials and Maintenance Managers to stay apprised of any/all new environmental-related equipment, process changes and materials/chemicals.
- Communicate with waste management and disposal vendors to coordinate proper pickup and disposal of waste.
- Raise awareness and regularly communicate with TMs regarding the environmental program (ex. bulletin boards, information for communication stations, a monthly newsletter, etc.)
- Maintain all recordkeeping and conduct activities necessary for environmental compliance and ISO 14001 program (monthly material usage recordkeeping, storm water, air permitting, etc.).
- Schedule and participate with the EHS Manager in conducting internal audits, management reviews, and third-party audits.
- Conduct root cause analysis to address audit findings, implement corrective actions, evaluate effectiveness of actions taken, and keep documented evidence.
- In conjunction with the EHS Manager, lead cultural change to promote the reduction of waste (materials and energy) across facility operations.
- Safety Duties:
- Administer basic first aid to Team Members as needed.
- Transport and accompany injured Team Members to medical facilities when needed.
- Participate in the incident investigation process with the EHS Manager and line supervisors.
- Perform Hazard Walks of the facility, identify hazards and non-conformances, and follow-up on corrective actions until closed.
- Enforce EHS policies and educate team members on best practices and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures)
- Promote a positive EHS culture and take part in promoting EHS initiatives.
- Participate in third party audits/inspections with the EHS Manager
- Assist the EHS Manager as needed with data entry and EHS analytics.
- Actively participate in the Facility Safety Committee meetings
- Conduct New Hire Orientation for new hires as needed.
- Help create, schedule, and execute annual EHS training.
Other Duties:
Must participate in on- and off-site training activities as requested by/through the General Manager and/or Home Office EHS Leadership
Continually seek personal and professional improvement through reading and participating in external environmental, health, and safety training courses
Lead by example, adhere to all environmental, health, and safety requirements, and strive to become a subject-matter-expert in these requirements.
Stand in for and represent the EHS Manager as needed during those times the EHS Manager is out of the office.
Any other duties or tasks as assigned by the EHS Manager and/or General Manager
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- A.S. degree in health & safety or environmental is a plus.
- OSHA 10 or 30 for general/construction industry is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of ISO 14001 is a plus.
- Self-motivated and self-starting
- Ability to work independently on projects with minimal oversight or guidance.
- Analytical Thinker and problem solver
- Desire to learn and improve new and existing skills.
- Strong organization and time-management skills
- Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Understanding of local, state, and federal environmental regulations is a plus.
- Good people/communication skills and the ability to follow-up and hold people accountable.
- Must have and maintain a clean driving record.
- CPR and First Aide certification is a plus.
- Experience in work comp claims is a plus.
