Job Summary:
Nestled under live oaks draped with moss and surrounded by manicured hedges and wild palmettos, the Jekyll Island Tennis Center is a public tennis facility featuring 13 Har-tru clay courts. We're adding a part-time teaching professional to join our team! The Teaching Professional's primary responsibilities are scheduling, and providing tennis lessons, clinics and camps, as well as assisting with court maintenance, and pro shop sales.
Duties:
- Assists with organizing programs and arranges events, provides lessons, clinics, and camps, solicits convention and group tournament business, provides senior and junior tennis programs, and sells court times, etc.
- Assists with tennis center pro shop; monitors sales, orders merchandise, maintains inventory records, and reconciles sales operations.
- Attends various meetings and seminars to remain informed regarding USTA requirements for hosting tournaments and leagues; prepares and distributes various literature regarding upcoming events.
- Supervises, plans, and implements procedures for annual summer camps.
- Sets and adjusts court irrigation systems.
- Performs various public relations duties to market the tennis center as required by marketing.
- Instructs individuals and groups the game of tennis; teaches professionally.
- Provides customer service to all guests in a professional and courteous manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Has or will acquire USTA Safe Play Certification within 30 days of employment.
- Valid USPTA / PTR Tennis Professional Certification preferred.
- USTA Referee and/or League Coordinator Certification a plus.
- Minimum three (3) years experience teaching tennis; will consider any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
- Must possess basic computer knowledge in a Windows environment.
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must have valid drivers license
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- Exert up to 90 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- More than 50% of the typical workday may be spent walking, sitting, standing and using repetitive motions of the wrists, hands or fingers.
- Between 25% and 50% of the typical workday may be spent climbing stairs, pushing and pulling.
- Less than 25% of the typical day is spent balancing, stooping and/or crouching, kneeling, reaching.
- Sensory abilities required are feeling, grasping and touching with more than 50% of the time spent talking and hearing.
- Visual abilities to perform tasks required are to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment and determine the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures.
- The majority of the work is conducted outside with exposure to extreme heat, high humidity and occasional adverse weather conditions as well as occasional cold temperatures.
- Will be exposed to hazards such as moving mechanical parts and moving vehicles.
- Noise levels are generally considered normal.
