Job Summary:
Under general supervision, the Guest Information Center Assistant Manager will assist the Manager with all daily operations of the Jekyll Island Guest Information Center. Responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of the gift shop, merchandising, providing exceptional customer service, center supervision, inventory control, training, and motivating staff, and maintaining accurate accounting records. This position requires a self-starter who is passionate about helping others and sharing everything Jekyll Island has to offer.
Description:
- Assist Guest Information Center Manager with daily operations of the center and gate plaza, including supervising, training, and directing staff in the absence of the Manager.
- Managing and motivating the team to increase sales, assigns goals to employees in order to effectively manage their day-to-day activities.
- Schedules employees based on the operational needs of the center.
- Responds quickly and professionally to requests from guests, supervisors, or management in a timely, friendly, and efficient manner and follows up to ensure satisfaction
- Collaborates with Guest Information Center Manager and Director of Retail Operations to improve operations of the Center.
- Ensures availability of merchandise by replenishing store stock levels daily.
- Responsible for the store’s inventory control. Assists in inventory counts identifies shortages or surpluses and reports all discrepancies to the Center Manager.
- Monitors and controls wages and store expenses based on operating budget and expected customer visitation projections.
- Keeps abreast of Jekyll Island operations and events, makes sure all guest services staff is aware of changes at the beginning of each shift.
- Prepare deposit and daily reports; ensures that proper accounting procedures are followed at all times.
- Serve as liaison to outside organizations and other agencies for Pass Program.
- Manages annual parking pass program to the highest quality standard.
- Manages and updates the parking pass database.
- Troubleshoot and resolve gate plaza issues.
- Protects employees and customers by providing a safe and clean store environment.
- Promotes and participates in training activities to optimize customer service skills of staff.
- Provides a professional image at all times including proper appearance and dress.
- Enforces program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Responsible for ensuring PCI compliance as required by credit card regulations.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required, Associates degree or higher in Business, Communications, Merchandising, or related field preferred.
- Three years of retail store experience required.
- Computer skills including Microsoft Office required and accurate data entry skills required, database experience preferred.
- Strong communication skills, ability to supervise staff and work as part of a team.
- Must have the ability to work under pressure and handle challenging situations
- Must have flexible availability, including evenings, nights, and weekends.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Credit and criminal background check required.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- Exert up to 40 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to20 pounds frequently and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- More than 50% of a typical workday will be spent walking, standing, balancing, reaching, using fingers to handle objects such as money, and using repetitive motions of the wrist, hands, and fingers.
- Between 25% and 50% of the typical workday will be spent stooping (bending at the waist) and lifting.
- Less than 25% of the day is spent kneeling, crouching, sitting, pushing, and pulling
- Sensory abilities required include vision, hearing, and touching with more than 50% of the day spent communicating; talking, and hearing.
- Must have visual clarity to prepare and analyze data and figures, use the computer, and expansive reading.
- Majority of work is performed both indoors and outside. Work performed may be subject to extreme heat and adverse weather including rain and/or cold temperatures.
- Noise level is considered normal to loud.
- Work is subjected to hazards; moving vehicles.
