Job Summary:
As Georgia’s largest public golf resort, Jekyll Island offers 63 holes on four golf courses, providing players of all skill and experience levels a wonderful golf experience. With more than 80,000 golfers playing our golf courses each year, Starters are part of our Golf Guest Services team and assist our guests with golf shop outside operations. Provide direction and information to golfers regarding golf courses, carts, fees, and golf tee times. Starters may also perform a variety of tasks related to general upkeep of golf carts ensuring an enjoyable experience.
Description:
- Coordinates and directs start of play on golf courses, which involves assisting patrons with beginning play, encouraging efficient progress of play, and verifying presence of tickets indicating that all fees have been paid.
- Maintains orderly and timely movement of players throughout the golf course in a polite and tactful manner.
- Enforces all golf course rules and regulations in a courteous and effective manner.
- Provides general information in friendly, professional manner to customers relating to tee times, upcoming tournaments, etc.; as well as information about Jekyll Island and other guest attractions.
- Respond to guest inquiries and requests in a timely, friendly and efficient manner.
- Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment and monitors environment to ensure safety of guests and other individuals, notify Director or Public Safety Director of unsafe conditions.
- Assists golf cart attendants as required.
- Promotes and participates in training activities to optimize customer service skills of staff.
- Ensure uniform and personal appearance is clean and professional.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience in golf pro shop and/or golf guest services preferred.
- Clear understanding of the rules and regulations which apply to the game of golf.
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must have valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends/holidays.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds of force frequently and a negligible amount constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects.
- Between 25% and 50% of the typical workday will be spent standing, sitting, walking and repetitive motions of the wrists, hands and fingers.
- Less than 25% of the typical workday will consist of stooping and/or crouching, kneeling, stooping, and reaching.
- Ability to read and write, clearly communicate.
- Ability to perform tasks requiring accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned.
- Subject to work both inside and outside with extended periods of time in outside conditions, will be exposed to sun, heat & humidity, cold, and rain.
