he Senior Manager - Subcontract Management will lead the end-to-end subcontract management function for large-scale Renewable Energy EPC projects. The role is responsible for subcontracting strategy, bidder evaluation, commercial negotiations, contract administration, cost governance, subcontractor performance management, and risk mitigation to ensure successful project delivery within budget, schedule, quality, and contractual requirements.
The incumbent will drive commercial excellence and ensure effective management of subcontract packages across the project lifecycle, from tendering and award through execution, claims management, and contract closure.
Renewable Energy EPC project experience is mandatory for this role.
Key Responsibilities
Subcontract Strategy & Planning
- Develop and implement project subcontracting strategies aligned with business and project objectives.
- Identify subcontracting opportunities and packaging strategies to maximize commercial value and project efficiency.
- Participate in project planning and provide subcontract management inputs during project execution.
Subcontractor Sourcing & Award
- Lead prequalification, evaluation, and selection of subcontractors for project construction activities.
- Review technical and commercial bids and conduct comparative assessments.
- Lead commercial negotiations and finalize subcontract agreements.
- Ensure subcontract awards are aligned with project budgets, schedules, and contractual requirements.
Contract Management & Administration
- Manage the complete subcontract lifecycle from award to final closure.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and administer subcontract agreements.
- Ensure contractual compliance by all stakeholders.
- Monitor and administer change orders, variations, claims, extensions of time, and dispute resolution processes.
- Coordinate with Legal, Procurement, Construction, Engineering, and Commercial teams on contractual matters.
Cost Governance & Commercial Control
- Monitor subcontract costs, commitments, forecasts, and project expenditures.
- Conduct cost analysis and recommend cost reduction and value-engineering opportunities.
- Establish robust cost governance mechanisms and commercial controls.
- Review subcontractor payment applications and certify commercial entitlements.
- Support project cash flow management and profitability objectives.
Risk Management
- Identify contractual, commercial, and execution risks associated with subcontract packages.
- Develop mitigation strategies and monitor implementation.
- Proactively manage subcontractor claims and potential disputes to minimize project impact.
Subcontractor Performance Management
- Establish subcontractor performance KPIs covering safety, quality, productivity, and schedule adherence.
- Conduct regular subcontractor performance reviews.
- Drive corrective actions and performance improvement initiatives.
- Ensure timely resolution of operational and commercial issues affecting project progress.
MIS, Reporting & Analytics
- Prepare and present subcontract status reports, cost dashboards, and management MIS.
- Analyze project and subcontract performance data to support informed decision-making.
- Develop performance metrics and reporting frameworks for project leadership.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop subcontract management teams.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with Project Management, Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Finance, Legal, and Client representatives.
- Drive a culture of commercial awareness, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Governance & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with company policies, contractual obligations, legal requirements, and industry standards.
- Maintain complete documentation and records for audits and contractual reviews.
- Promote best practices, process standardization, and governance across projects.
Educational Qualification
Essential
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
Preferred
- Master's Degree in Construction Management, Project Management, Business Administration, Contracts Management, or related discipline.
- Professional certifications in Contract Management, Procurement, Commercial Management, or Project Management will be an added advantage.
Experience
Essential
12-18 years of experience in Construction, Commercial, Contracts, or Subcontract Management within EPC projects.
Mandatory experience in Renewable Energy EPC projects, particularly:
- Solar Power Projects
- Wind Energy Projects
- Hybrid Renewable Projects
- Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
Proven experience in leading subcontract management teams.
Strong experience in subcontractor identification, evaluation, negotiation, and finalization.
Extensive experience in contract administration, claims management, and commercial negotiations.
Demonstrated expertise in cost governance, cost control, forecasting, budgeting, and commercial risk management.
Experience handling multiple subcontract packages simultaneously on large and complex projects.
Sound understanding of construction contracts, subcontract agreements, and project execution methodologies.
Mandatory Requirement
Candidates without hands-on Renewable Energy EPC project experience will not be considered for this position.
