Senior Mechanical / Piping Engineer – Study Phase (DFS) – Copper/Gold Project
About the Project
We are supporting the delivery of the DFS for a large-scale copper-gold development in Southeast Asia. This is a full greenfield project covering mine, plant and all supporting infrastructure, including non-process infrastructure, water systems and bulk materials handling interfaces.
The Perth team is responsible for key infrastructure scopes, with a strong focus on developing designs that are practical, buildable, and aligned with the realities of a remote, complex site environment.
About the Role
This role sits within the mechanical/piping team and focuses on the design and integration of piping systems, slurry transport, and infrastructure-related mechanical systems across the project.
The work spans from concept through to DFS-level design, with a strong emphasis on technical depth, system integration and practical delivery, rather than purely theoretical design.
You will be working across multiple interfaces, particularly with civil, structural and bulk material handling teams, ensuring systems are coordinated and aligned with the broader project layout.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Design
-
Lead the design of mechanical and piping systems across mining and infrastructure scopes
-
Deliver design for:
-
Slurry pipelines (HDPE, rubber-lined steel, wear-resistant systems)
-
Water and wastewater systems (pump stations, pipelines, dosing systems)
-
Non-process infrastructure (utilities, tanks, fuel systems, services)
-
Perform hydraulic calculations, pipe sizing and pump selection
-
Develop P&IDs, piping layouts and general arrangement drawings
-
Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g. AS 4041, AS 4100)
Material Handling & Interfaces
-
Interface with bulk material handling systems (conveyors, transfer stations, ship loaders)
-
Design associated services including dust suppression, washdown and drainage systems
-
Coordinate closely with mechanical layouts and operational requirements
Project Delivery (DFS Focus)
-
Support delivery across FEED, DFS and detailed design phases
-
Prepare:
-
Participate in design reviews, HAZID/HAZOP and constructability reviews
-
Provide input into cost estimates and scheduling
Operating Context
This role sits within a multidisciplinary DFS team delivering integrated engineering outcomes across infrastructure and plant.
You will be working closely with civil, structural, process and project engineering teams, ensuring piping and mechanical systems are aligned with evolving design and site constraints.
About You
We’re looking for someone with strong technical capability in piping and slurry systems, ideally within mining or resource projects.
-
~8+ years’ experience in mechanical/piping engineering
-
Strong experience in:
-
Slurry piping design (critical)
-
Water and wastewater systems
-
Non-process infrastructure
-
Experience working in mining or bulk material handling environments
-
Background in EPC or EPCM delivery
-
Strong understanding of:
-
Experience with design tools such as Plant 3D, SmartPlant or E3D
-
Chartered status (or working towards) preferred
Roster & Conditions
Why Apply
This is a technically focused role within a major project where piping and infrastructure systems are critical to overall delivery.
You’ll be working at DFS stage, contributing to designs that will carry through into execution, with strong involvement across system integration, interfaces and real-world constructability.
There is also potential for continuity into future project phases as the project progresses.
