Join Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance (DZCA) as a Conservation Learning Coordinator and inspire young children and families to connect with nature! This role focuses on coordinating impactful, educational programs for children and their caregivers, focused on developing interest and affinity for wildlife and the natural world and strengthening their ability to engage in developmentally appropriate conservation action. You’ll lead part-time staff, support program communications, and build community relationships to strengthen DZCA’s mission of inspiring communities to save wildlife for future generations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinate Early Childhood Programs -
- Work with our Conservation Learning Manager to develop and run nature play-based programs for children, families, and caregivers.
- Lead at-zoo and in-community programs, family engagement, and preschool partnerships.
- Use DZCA’s program design process to create engaging, impactful experiences.
- Build partnerships with learning centers and organizations, especially those in underserved communities.
Program Communication & Reporting -
- Maintain clear communication with families, partners, and program participants.
- Prepare program staff and volunteers with the training and information they need.
- Track program impact and share results for promotion and fundraising.
Team Leadership -
- Oversee part-time staff and coordinate the work of the Conservation Learning Specialist.
- Support team hiring processes and contribute to a positive, inclusive team culture.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Support camp and school programs and occasionally work with small ambassador animals.
- Assist with other tasks as needed to meet DZCA’s goals.
Technical / Professional Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Completion or in pursuit of a or high school degree or equivalent required, or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Experience: Requires minimum of 2-years experience in environmental education in a nonprofit zoo, museum, or science institution, focusing on early childhood and elementary education; experience working in a nonprofit and with diverse communities is strongly preferred, or any equivalent combination of experience, lived experience, and/or special skills.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of best practices in nature-based learning, empathy development, and conservation. Skilled in program facilitation, coordination, and supervision.
- Additional Abilities: Excellent communication, organization, and adaptability. Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism. Basic Microsoft Office skills.
- Language: Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Position Conditions
- Ability to pass a, background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screen.
- Clear driving record.
- Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday, with flexibility for some Mondays, weekends, or evenings.
- Work Location: On campus and in community locations. Primarily in-person with limited hybrid opportunities.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $22.83 - $27.97 (hourly).
