The Maintenance Technician I performs work not requiring a license on a regular basis in one or more trades areas including, carpentry, locksmith, glazing, tool machinery, masonry, mechanical maintenance, minor electrical, minor plumbing, minor heating and ventilating, minor refrigeration and air conditioning, and painting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
General Facility Maintenance
- Assists journey level trades workers in the construction, maintenance, and repair of a variety of machinery, equipment, and facility systems and structures.
- Performs maintenance, repair, and replacement of broken equipment or parts including toilets, faucets, electronics, and hydraulics.
- Installs and repairs equipment or parts including floor tile, carpet, ceiling tile, window glass, insulation, dispensers, office furniture and related equipment.
- Cleans, adjusts, and lubricates engines, pumps, and compressors and replaces belts and filters.
- Inspect facilities and equipment to identify construction, maintenance and repair needs including estimating materials, labor, time, and cost of repairs.
- Operates and maintains lightweight vehicles and heavy equipment in connection with assigned duties and responsibilities. This will include performing maintenance required for Zoo attractions equipment including Train and Carousel.
Administration
- Utilize a computer basis work order system for tracking work assignments and work completed.
- Maintain records on attractions and facilities equipment and prepare daily activity reports.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Escort contractors behind scenes and communicating to other Zoo staff when entering and exiting an area, making sure the contractors are working safely, and clean up before leaving.
- May be required to be on-call to address emergent needs and responds to afterhours calls or emergency calls outside of normal scheduled or business hours.
- May participate in snow removal duties.
- Other assistance, as designated by the Multi-Trades Managers, to support the overall goals of the department and organization. DZCA retains the right to add or change duties and/or responsibilities at any time.
- Acts as a good steward of DZCA's resources.
- The nature of this position requires safeguarding against the release of confidential and proprietary information of DZCA.

Technical / Professional Requirements & Qualifications
- Completion or in pursuit of a or high school degree or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
- One (1) year of experience performing a variety of duties in construction, mechanical, or facility maintenance or any equivalent combination of experience, lived experience, and/or special skills.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite are preferred.
- Requires organizational skills, written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize work and tasks. Requires adaptability to produce and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, multi-task and changing environment, and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Requires the ability to embrace, support, and integrate DZCA’s philosophies to promote and demonstrate its commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and anti-racism.
Position Conditions
- Ability to pass a physical examination, background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screen.
- Clear driving record.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Schedule Availability: Four 10-hour shifts or five 8-hour shifts including weekends and evenings as needed.

Compensation
Range for this position is $21.19 - $25.43 (hourly).
