Job Summary
CONTEXT

The Business Area Refractory, Abrasives & Construction (RAC) has approximately 40 industrial sites, three S&T facilities, various regional offices and logistic centers over the world with 4,600 employees and €1.3b revenue.
The position reports directly to the BA QEHS Director. The manager is expected to drive and evolve a robust management system that ensures full compliance with applicable regulations and relevant group policies and protocols; promote industry best practices to reduce negative environmental impact and drive sustainability in the business area. It will also be accountable for coordinating the transversal industrial risk management initiatives & projects, such as climate change, process safety and loss prevention audit follow-up in partnership with the industrial support function.
MISSIONS
Systematically monitors the status of sites in accordance with relevant local regulations as well as Group standards, and ensures the maintenance of the environmental operating permits in coordination with local managers and the legal department;
Effectively leads the implementation of the Group’s environmental policies, protocols and strategic roadmaps within BA operations, in collaboration with the Group’s environmental network;
Identifies, analyzes and alerts in a timely manner on the business impacts of regulatory changes by observing trends in important environmental legislations in coordination with regional experts and professional associations;
Consolidates environmental performance data and monitors the implementation of the environmental roadmap in the business area. Prepares summary inputs for internal business reviews and relevant requests from customers and regulators;
Translates the Group’s ambitions into objectives and action plans at the business area level or at the level of priority operations; supports operational leaders in budget development, technical analysis and validation of key projects;
Regularly conducts environmental audits and reviews regarding water use and discharge, air emissions control, waste management, biodiversity impact, energy consumption, carbon footprint, etc.; also participates in and validates important action plans to mitigate risks or meet group commitments;
Manages the compliance work as one of the key point of contacts and expert referents related to the Emission Trade Scheme (ETS), Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), Eco-contribution, etc.;
Coordinates the process safety assessment at the target sites, follow up the improvement action plans from process safety and FM Global loss prevention audit, and provide timely input for the CAPEX budget process;
Acts as the BA champion for the evolving environmental programs, environmental incident/crisis management and assigned task force on sustainability;
Leads the environmental community to foster effective communication and collaboration, as well as the development of expertise in the business area;
Key Interfaces: one direct team member; works closely with the BA Industrial CoE, Hub Operations Managers, Site EHS coordinators, Group Sustainability & Environment function, responsible for environmental practices and results across the defined scope; liaise with the VP Industrial, Legal, Communications, relevant trade associations and regulatory bodies on compliance issues; cooperate with various functions on CO2 related subjects;
Be a role model on EHS, influence, engagement, collaboration, diversity and inclusion.
PROFILE
Master’s degree in an environmental engineering discipline or relevant leadership experiences in sustainability, industrial improvement, process, energy;
8+ years’ experience in industrial companies’ operations environment, with specific managerial experience on multiple-site risk management in an international contexts;
Fluent in writing and speaking in English and French, and any other European language will be a plus;
Demonstrated creativity, inspiring leadership skills and ability to influence others for positive changes in matrix organizations;
Strong communication, interpersonal and project management skills to engage the regional business contacts and interact in a cross-functional and inter-cultural environment;
Well organized and capable of multitasking, evaluating and prioritizing a number of projects;
Good knowledge of environmental / sustainability issues; familiar with the European regulation as a plus;
Proficient in the use of Google Suites, common collaboration tools, social networks and media for efficient collaboration and effective communication; ability to adopt innovative application of new tools, processes or technologies to foster efficiency and robustness;
Overnight travel is around 40%.
