This position reports directly to a Senior Bridge Engineer (Supervisor) in Structure Construction (SC), Division of Engineering Services (DES). The entry-level incumbent acts as an assistant to a Structure Representative, a Transportation Engineer Civil, Range D or Associate Bridge Engineer, and under close supervision, performs work of limited difficulty in a field construction environment. This work is performed on highway construction projects involving bridges, buildings, walls, barriers, drainage structures, sign structures and appurtenances. The incumbent works as an inspector to ensure contractors build structures in compliance with the contract documents (Standard Plans, Standard Specifications, contract plans, Special Provisions, and authorized shop drawings.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Transportation Engineering Technician exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.
