Our Food Services team is in search of people who are passionate about learning new things and giving our guests the best possible experience. Under direct supervision from full time staff, this position carries our preparation of food, proper customer service , adheres to proper cash handling procedures, and maintains cleanliness and safety of food service areas. This position is non-exempt part-time position under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Essential Job Functions *Duties will include, but are not limited to the following*
- Assisting the Zoo’s Food Service Department in various outlets that serve food and alcohol with both front of the house and back of the house duties.
- Working a cash register, taking orders, the responsible distribution of alcohol, serving catered events and stocking
- Food preparation and cooking
- Be available to work all food services areas (catering, concessions and restaurant)
- Cleaning of concession areas and maintenance of equipment to ensure proper sanitation and health and safety guidelines are met.
- Adheres to all Toledo Zoo policies/procedures and all required OSHA and safety/health policies.
- Provides support to other Visitor Services departments including Catering, Park Operations, Merchandising and Warehouse operations.
- Assists food service managers and supervisors with on other tasks as assigned
- Operates various types of equipment and machinery such as a remote radio, telephone, cash register, computer, ovens grills, fryers, dish washers, freezers, refrigerators, steams equipment, kitchen equipment, scales, etc.
- Interacts and communicates with staff, customers and immediate supervisor and other Zoo staff.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Training & Qualifications:
- Prefer experience in food service or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
- Candidates must be able to take direction, work independently and multi-task.
- Strong customer service and communication skills are a plus.
- Work schedules include weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Must have the physical ability to work on your feet and be outdoors for several hours at a time.
