Role Summary
EHS Lead in Environmental will be responsible for the support, development and successful operation of the soon to be expanded manufacturing site in Normal, IL and the future manufacturing site in Georgia. Reports to the Sr. Manager Environmental (EHS) and will excel cross-functionally with numerous internal departments, and external government agencies. You will be responsible for managing, developing, leading, and sustaining environmental initiatives to support all areas of manufacturing. The ideal candidate is self-motivated and can understand complex regulations and communicate them effectively to a variety of groups with diverse interests and backgrounds. The person in this position should be able to work in a fast-paced, multi-cultural, team-oriented environment. Must have the ability to influence to ensure safe and environmentally responsible operations often without direct authority over cross-functional team members.
Responsibilities
- Manage and support the environmental compliance and best management practices as they relate to Manufacturing
- Support, design, and recommend, solutions for environmental processes relating to Air Emissions, Wastewater Treatment or Waste Management.
- Influence teams and drive toward shared goals and objectives.
- Build and ensure that all applicable environmental compliance programs are in place and functioning properly
- Interfaces with clients and government officials on matters related to environmental regulatory compliance.
- Ensure applicable environmental related goals including leading indicators are set, tracked, and shared with the organization.
- Ensure a process is functioning such that all new equipment meets applicable environmental standards prior to production.
- Working knowledge if ISO 14001 (preferred)
- Support compliance with all applicable CAA, CWA, RCRA, NPDES, EPA, federal, state, local and health regulation requirements.
- Coach and influence management level staff including Operations, Engineering, and Facilities/Maintenance to integrate systems and manage environmental compliance consistent with all applicable risks.
- Create and support inspections of properties, people, and operations are carried out to evaluate environmental aspects and impacts.
- Continually create a culture of environmental incident-free attitudes using accountability, incident review processes and demonstration through example.
- Routinely works cross-functionally with other company stakeholders and departments.
- Experience with both construction and operational environmental requirements.
- Willingness to work extended or non-standard shifts, including weekends.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization with a minimum of 5 years EHS experience required
- 5+ years in a consulting or manufacturing setting is required
- Manufacturing or industrial facility experience is required – automotive experience (preferred)
- Certified Hazard Material Manager (CHMM)(preferred)
- Relevant industry professional certifications: Wastewater Operator, Stormwater Inspector, Construction Storm Water Operator(preferred)
- Working knowledge of EPA regulations, with a working knowledge of DOT, hazardous materials, and project management. Strong leadership, emotional intelligence, and management skills required.
- Knowledge of concepts, principles, practices, and methodologies related to Air/Water/Waste requirements. And the ability to make decisions relating to long term site use plans and permitting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Problem solving skills in a high-pressure environment
- Proficient skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint. Prefer SAP & Benchmark ESG knowledge
- In the performance of the duties of this job, the employee is required to travel, drive a motor vehicle. Travel could be up to 30% of the time
