Role SummaryAs the Emergency Management Lead, you will provide expert leadership in ensuring the safety, resilience, and operational continuity of our manufacturing plant through the development and execution of advanced emergency management programs. This role involves leading the creation, coordination, and implementation of sophisticated procedures and plans across all aspects of emergency management, including prevention, protection, preparedness, response, mitigation, and recovery. You will be responsible for exceeding enterprise standards, adhering to local and federal regulations, and integrating industry best practices.
In this pivotal role, you will spearhead continuous improvement initiatives in emergency management practices through comprehensive training and exercises designed to enhance site resilience. You will lead the development and coordination of emergency management programs within Rivian manufacturing, ensuring a robust and sustainable approach to crisis management.
Supporting the Senior Manager, Emergency Management, you will serve as the primary expert point of contact for a broad network of Rivian stakeholders, including Safety, Security, Manufacturing, Facilities, and Operations. You will provide strategic leadership and advanced training on all facets of emergency management, ensuring preparedness and effective response capabilities.
You will manage multiple emergency operations and coordinate expert-level services during emergency activations, ensuring a well-orchestrated response. Your role will require working closely with a diverse group of stakeholders, acting as a key support conduit, and fostering strong inter-departmental communications for emergency management and training initiatives.
By leveraging your extensive expertise and strategic insights, you will drive the advancement of Rivian's emergency management programs, ensuring the highest levels of safety and resilience for our workforce and assets.
Responsibilities- 24/7 Emergency Leadership: Be on-call around the clock to provide top-level emergency management expertise, ensuring a swift 20-minute response time to the manufacturing plant. Make critical decisions during emergencies and direct response teams for immediate action.
- Advanced Program Development: Oversee the creation and execution of complex emergency management programs specifically tailored to the manufacturing environment. Conduct thorough risk assessments, strategic planning, and integrate best practices to ensure program resilience and effectiveness.
- High-Level Compliance Management: Ensure all emergency management procedures and plans not only meet but exceed local and federal regulatory standards. Conduct regular audits and compliance checks, driving continuous improvement initiatives to maintain the highest regulatory adherence.
- Sophisticated Training Programs: Design and lead advanced training programs in emergency management, including the development of specialized curriculum for complex scenarios. Ensure training plans are comprehensive and conduct high-level facilitation of course materials.
- Comprehensive Incident Coordination: Lead extensive emergency incident response training and exercises. Set and assess high-level measurable objectives to significantly enhance organizational preparedness and response capabilities.
- Expert Incident Management: Manage emergency incidents from the emergency management perspective, ensuring a well-coordinated response. Bring together experts from various fields, including technical specialists, operational leaders, and external agencies, to effectively resolve incidents.
- Deep Agency Collaboration: Work closely with local, state, and federal emergency management agencies to ensure coordinated efforts during emergencies. Build strong relationships with these agencies to facilitate seamless integration and regulatory compliance.
- Continuous Improvement Initiatives: Independently produce detailed after-action reports and develop sophisticated improvement plans. Ensure the implementation of lessons learned from both training exercises and real incidents through rigorous data analysis and integration into standard operating procedures.
- Strategic Expertise and Guidance: Act as the premier subject matter expert (SME) in emergency management for the manufacturing plant. Provide high-level strategic guidance and insights that shape organizational policies and practices.
- Leadership Point of Contact: Serve as the primary expert point of contact for all leadership on emergency management matters. Offer strategic advice and expert recommendations to senior leaders, ensuring informed decision-making during crises.
- Innovative Training Solutions: Develop and implement cutting-edge training methodologies to significantly improve employee preparedness. Utilize the latest technologies and innovative approaches to enhance training delivery and assessment.
- Strategic Emergency Planning: Formulate and implement wide-ranging emergency management strategies that ensure thorough readiness and effective response mechanisms. Lead cross-functional teams and projects to strengthen the overall emergency management framework.
- High-Level Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including local and federal emergency management agencies. Promote and advance risk mitigation initiatives through effective collaboration and networking.
- Proactive Risk Management: Lead efforts to identify and mitigate emergency management risks, conducting advanced hazard identification and risk assessments. Implement strategic mitigation strategies to address potential threats proactively.
- Advanced Communication Strategies: Develop comprehensive communication strategies to support risk awareness and mitigation efforts across the organization. Engage stakeholders with strategic messaging and advanced information dissemination techniques.
- Expert Instruction and Mentorship: Provide high-level training and mentorship in risk assessment, hazard identification, and control implementation. Elevate the organization’s emergency preparedness knowledge through advanced instructional techniques.
- Detailed Records Maintenance: Ensure meticulous maintenance of training records and reports, facilitating rigorous and transparent audits. Adhere to high standards of record-keeping and documentation practices.
- Exemplary Regulatory Standards: Uphold and exceed compliance with all state and federal regulations and guidelines, setting a benchmark for industry standards.
- Policy and Procedure Leadership: Exemplify adherence to and enforcement of all company policies and procedures, ensuring the highest levels of integrity and compliance within the team and organization.
- Enhancing Safety and Resilience: Continuously seek and implement opportunities to enhance the safety, resilience, and emergency preparedness of the manufacturing plant. Undertake additional duties and projects that contribute to the overall strategic goals of the organization.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree, or greater in emergency management
- Exercise design certification or significant exercise experience preferred
- Proficient knowledge of emergency management with a clear understanding of FEMA and local emergency management standards including ICS, NIMS, National Response Framework, and other All-Hazards training in Emergency Management
- Proven experience in emergency management within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong analytical skills to assess risks, conduct evaluations, and implement corrective actions.
- Business Continuity education preferred
- Strong knowledge of local and federal emergency management frameworks and best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop comprehensive emergency programs.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to think strategically and innovate solutions for complex emergency management challenges.
- Able to interpret complex regulations and communicate requirements to groups with diverse interests and backgrounds
- Experience leading the delivery of emergency management programs
- Ability to work varied hours (emergencies, projects) with occasional travel required.
- Must be self-motivated and able to create detailed emergency management plans and procedures
- Must be organized and have knowledge of regulatory record-keeping requirements
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-cultural, team-oriented environment
- Proficient skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint
