Project Manager - Energy Storage Development
Sunkeeper Solar’s Energy Storage Development Project Manager plays a key role in designing and developing battery energy storage projects in and around the New York Metropolitan Area, as well as supporting Sunkeeper’s Clients during construction. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years’ experience in commercial scale distributed generation, great organization skills, be interested to learn about renewable energy design and implementation, and be excited to work in a construction-focused environment, where you will get to see the results of what you put "on paper" firsthand.
Location: Office work will be based in downtown Brooklyn, NY but applicants should be prepared to visit Sunkeeper Solar job sites in and around the NYC metro area as needed.
Responsibilities: Sunkeeper is a fast paced and growing company, and applicants for the Energy Storage Development Project Manager should be flexible and be prepared to get their hands dirty. Common responsibilities for the position will include:
- Engineering, Permitting & Design Support
- Project Manager of a multi-disciplinary engineering team to develop energy storage projects from empty lots to a fully built and functional energy storage project
- Coordinating with Client, sub-consultants, and Sunkeeper’s Engineering team to establish a basis of design for the project, including equipment selection and general arrangement of equipment
- Develop and maintain a design phase schedule for ESS engineering and permitting projects and manage a team of 4+ consultants
- Ensuring that consultants issue drawing sets and reports to hit key schedule milestones
- Coordinating drawings between consultants
- Logging and tracking design changes from multiple stakeholders and ensuring that revisions are incorporated in each new drawing issuance via Procore or other construction document management systems
- Communication
- Leading project meetings with clients
- Responding to emails in a timely and clear manner
- Negotiating contracts with subcontractors and sub-consultants
- Negotiating change orders
- Attending weekly or bi-weekly project check-ins with clients
- Procurement Support
- Researching equipment and procuring quotes and submittals as needed to support design decisions
- Performing cost-benefit analyses
- Construction Support and Administration
- Organizing feedback from decision makers
- Organizing drawing revisions and comments
- Managing submittal, RFI, and inspection workflows between client, client’s EPC, and sub-consultants via Procore or other construction document management systems
- Permitting Support – prepare, review with senior staff, and submit:
- Utility interconnection applications
- Building Permit applications
- Fire Department permit applications
- Other AHJ applications
- Miscellaneous Business Support
- Assisting the Business Development team with policy research
- Attend working group meetings and other policy events to support ESS development in the downstate NY area
- More generally, assisting with day-to-day tasks to support the growth of the business
Reporting: Project Managers will report directly to the Managing Member.
Compensation & Benefits: Range - $100-$130k base, bonus-eligible. Compensation will depend on applicant experience and performance. Sunkeeper offers the following benefits:

Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or a related field
- Familiarity with standard office software (MS Word, Excel, Gmail, etc.)
- Ability to travel to job sites in the NYC metropolitan area
- Physical requirements: While the position is primarily an office position, SKS is a construction company and will call personnel into the field for certain labor-intensive operations such as mobilizations and demobilizations. Additionally, accessing SKS job sites and performing some engineering tasks may have certain physical requirements. Applicants should be able to work outside during hot and cold weather, repeatedly lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, use standard hand tools, and follow verbal and auditory instructions during on-site work. The ideal candidate must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
- Experience with technical drawing & drawing software (AutoCAD LT preferred)
- If they do not already have it, applicant will be required to get their OSHA 30 & NYC 40-hour SST cards (Sunkeeper will pay for the classes).
Desired Skills, Certifications, & Experience: Preference will be given to applications possessing the following skills, experience, and certifications:
- Experience
- Minimum 5 years of relevant renewable energy project development
- Experience developing energy storage projects and familiarity with energy storage technology
- Eye for detail
- Demonstrated experience in effectively communicating information, ideas and perspectives with people inside and beyond your organization
- Building design, construction, and construction administration processes
- Demonstrated experience working with teams of architects and designers taking projects from conceptual design to IFC drawing sets
- Electrical design and construction experience
- Past experience with permitting distributed generation jobs in New York City
- Familiarity with codes & standards - NEC, NFPA 70E, I-Codes, NYC Building & Fire Codes, etc.
- Software
