The Gowanus BID Formation Effort is a community-led effort, facilitated by Gowanus Canal Conservancy, to establish a Business Improvement District (BID) in Gowanus focused on advocacy for and management and programming of the public realm in Gowanus. Through the Gowanus BID we aim to ensure the maintenance of the public realm in Gowanus, to guarantee that all members of the community can enjoy emerging parks and public spaces, and to reinforce a vibrant live-work neighborhood. Outreach Coordinator – Position Description Gowanus Canal Conservancy is seeking an Outreach Coordinator to support all aspects of the Outreach phase for the Gowanus BID Formation Effort. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, creative, detail oriented, and an excellent communicator, with a knowledge of the Gowanus neighborhood, NYC BIDs and/or campaign implementation. This position will report to the Communications and Outreach Senior Manager, and will work closely with the Landscape Director, Executive Director, and the BID Formation Effort Steering Committee. Key Responsibilities Outreach & Events (50%) * Support coordination and implementation of public meetings and presentations including event logistics and materials preparation * Coordinate and staff outreach and public events with tabling and BID ambassador needs, and supporting Steering Committee members and volunteers * Organize and implement door knocking, flyering, phone and text banking to reach several thousand people in the Gowanus neighborhood Communications (20%) * Draft emails & communications to key stakeholders and the Steering Committee * Support creation of additional outreach materials * Support completion of mailing to the proposed Gowanus BID boundary Data Management (30%) * Perform regular updates to property & merchant database and interactive GIS map * Conduct research for database building and format data * Work with Steering Committee to log outreach activities * Log all ballots and track progress Preferred Qualifications * Familiarity and experience with the NYC BIDs and/or public space management * Familiarity and experience with campaigns, door knocking and/or phone banking * Interest in urban environmental issues * Experience and interest in working with diverse communities and teams * Excellent oral and written communication skills * Excellent organizational skills * Adept at Excel and Google Sheet database management Physical Requirements * Ability to talk, hear, sit, stand, and walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms * Communicating information; reading and typing; using video conferencing Schedule: This is a part-time, temporary position, from November through May, up to 32 hours per week, and will require evening and weekend work. The role is primarily in person at the GCC office in Gowanus, with some flexibility for hybrid work. Compensation: $27-$29 per hour, based on experience.
