About the Role
Yilgarn Iron is seeking a Mine Geologist to join its geology team and support grade control and production activities at Koolyanobbing.
Reporting to the Lead Mine Geologist, you will play a key role in delivering accurate grade control, ore delineation, and geological support to mining operations, ensuring high-quality ore is delivered to the processing plant safely and efficiently.
This is a hands-on operational role focused on grade control, ore control, and production geology. Working closely with Mining, Technical Services, and Survey teams, you will help optimise ore recovery, minimise dilution, and maintain accurate geological control of the orebody.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage and supervise daily grade control drilling programs.
• Conduct ore spotting, geological mapping, and waste delineation activities.
• Monitor, interpret, and validate geological data to support mining operations.
• Ensure accurate ore body interpretation and grade control outcomes.
• Work closely with Mine Planning and Operations teams to optimise ore recovery and minimise dilution.
• Maintain geological databases and ensure data quality and integrity.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly geological reports.
• Assist with ore reconciliation and stockpile management activities.
• Provide geological advice and support to production teams.
• Promote and maintain high safety standards across all geology activities.
Key Requirements
• Degree qualification in Geology or a related discipline.
• Experience in Mine Geology or Grade Control Geology within an iron ore operation.
• Strong understanding of grade control practices, ore body interpretation, and geological data management.
• Experience with geological software such as Micromine, Datamine, Leapfrog, Surpac, or similar.
• Experience supervising grade control drilling programs and geological sampling activities.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary mining team.
• Current Manual C-Class Driver's Licence.
