The company’s assets include Koolyanobbing, Windarling, Parker Range, and adjacent tenements, all hosted within structurally complex BIF sequences typical of the Southern Cross Greenstone Belt.
About the Role
Yilgarn Iron is seeking an experienced Lead Mine Geologist to lead operational geology activities at Koolyanobbing.
Reporting directly to the General Manager Operations, this position will be responsible for overseeing mine geology functions, grade control, ore delineation, reconciliation, geological data management and geological support to mining operations.
This is a leadership role that will provide direction and mentorship to the site geology team while working closely with Mining, Technical Services and Operations personnel to maximise ore recovery, maintain product quality and support safe, efficient mining outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and manage the site geology team, providing technical guidance, mentoring and performance support.
• Oversee grade control activities, ore delineation and geological support to mining operations.
• Manage geological interpretation and ore control processes to optimise ore recovery and minimise dilution.
• Coordinate grade control drilling programs, geological logging, sampling and QA/QC activities.
• Lead daily, weekly and monthly reconciliation processes and reporting.
• Maintain geological databases, models and reporting systems to ensure data integrity and accuracy.
• Provide geological input into mine planning, scheduling and operational decision-making.
• Monitor ore quality and support blending strategies to meet product specifications.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental and operational standards.
• Work collaboratively with Mining, Technical Services, Survey and Processing teams to achieve operational objectives.
Key Requirements
• Degree qualification in Geology or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience within iron ore mining operations.
• Strong understanding of BIF-hosted hematite deposits and iron ore geology.
• Extensive experience in operational geology, grade control, ore control and reconciliation.
• Previous leadership experience supervising and mentoring geology teams.
• Strong geological logging, sampling, drilling and geological interpretation skills.
• Experience with geological modelling software and geological database management.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Current Manual C-Class Driver’s Licence.
