How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:
The Field Staff, Education & Training position will be part of the Sustainable Technologies Evaluation Program (STEP) team. They will be assisting the Environmental Technicians with the collection, analysis, management and reporting of stormwater data from STEP projects and partnership programs related to Low Impact Development (LID) and Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI). This position provides practical experience supporting applied research and monitoring of innovative stormwater technologies. Field staff will contribute to advancing sustainable water management practices through real-world data collection and analysis.
As this job is partly funded by a Canada Summer Jobs grant, to be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
A youth between the ages of 15 – 30.
A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or persons who have been granted refugee status in Canada.
And legally entitled to work according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
Major Responsibilities:
Participates in inspection of stormwater management infrastructure
Assists STEP team with inspections and fieldwork
Performs quality control of previously completed records, supports data entry and data clean-up initiatives
Operates field laptops and other devices and equipment to take and record measurements in the field
Executes on a number of general field work duties related to specific project/program area
Collects and inputs field data according to project scope
Ensures that quality control and assurance measures are followed at all steps of the work process
Assists with the transportation of materials to and from sites as required
Directs the public to project notice signage and possibly providing contact information for additional information and inquiries, referring detailed questions and complaints to supervisor
Participates in the daily safety meetings including tailgate meetings, hazard identification and emergency planning
Incumbents may also be assigned other duties
What will you need to succeed:
Education (degree/diploma/certifications/licenses)
Minimum pursuing a post-secondary diploma or degree in a related field
Valid Class G2 Driver’s License
Valid Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C Certification
Knowledge/Skill/Ability - Competencies
Familiar with basic equipment and power tools
Ability to communicate effectively with tact and courtesy
Demonstrated ability to proactively identify problems in a timely manner, seeking the appropriate level of support to solve issues
Proficiency in MS Office for general office communications (I.e., mail, spreadsheet and word processing software, including online enablement software such as MS teams and SharePoint)
Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, related Regulations and legislation
Required to lift or carry objects that could weigh up to 45lbs
