Major Responsibilities:
Leads the planning, delivery, evaluation and continuous improvement of TRCA’s Health and Safety Management Program ensuring TRCA’s program is legislatively compliant
Manages, recommends, develops, revises, implements and interprets health and safety practices, policies and procedures
Leads the annual review of TRCA’s Health and Safety Management System in accordance with COR requirements and provides recommendations for annual health and safety objectives based on findings of the review
Provides oversight of the development and execution of TRCA’s Job Hazard and Violence Risk Assessments, ensuring all documents remain up to date and in compliance with legislation, and ensuring internal staff involvement and collaboration
Manages TRCA’s ergonomic program
Analyses and monitors organizational health and safety statistics and trends in support of health and safety continuous improvement, providing recommendations and strategies to support continuous improvement opportunities
Leads the development and delivery of TRCA’s health and safety training, ensuring compliance and records are maintained
Leads the procurement of corporate level safety equipment, training and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), ensuring compliance with legislation and TRCA’s procurement requirements
Provides support and direction to H&S Specialists to manage all aspects of workplace accidents, incidents, near misses, and work refusals including WSIB case management; implementing practices and procedures to reduce risks and complete trend analysis and reporting
Provides support and direction to H&S Specialists to initiate and lead the WSIB appeal and reconsideration process
Provides direction to the various JHSC’s ensuring compliance with legislation, consistency across all committees and proactive health and safety management
Liaises with external organizations, regulatory bodies, and agencies to remain current on health and safety trends, while establishing professional networks for bench marking and research related to health and safety best practices
What will you need to succeed:
Education (degree/diploma/certifications/licenses)
Post-secondary diploma or degree in Human Resources, Health & Safety Management or a related discipline
Valid Ontario Class G2 driver's license
Experience
4+ years of progressive experience as a safety professional in a mid to large size organization
1+ years of progressive managerial, supervisory or project management experience
Experience with WSIB claims management and appeal process
Knowledge/Skill/Ability - Competencies
Expert level knowledge and application of health and safety management practices and principles
Sound ability to plan and conduct widespread multi-site safety audits and inspections
Demonstrated practical knowledge developing and facilitating health and safety training programs
Able to comprehend written documentation and procedural guidelines; skilled in writing clear correspondence (concise, logical, grammatically correct)
Ability to overcome objections by reasoning persuasively
Understanding of health and safety management systems for the purposes of managing organization wide health and safety documentation
Ability to use critical thinking to evaluate problems, gather information, understand causes, and identify the best possible solutions.
Knowledge of best management practices, and up-to-date knowledge of mitigation and controls, as well as safe work procedures
Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and other related legislation and standards
Proficiency in MS Office suite including online software such as MS teams, WebEx, and SharePoint
