DescriptionAs the Environmental Lead closely you will manage and oversee all aspects of the environment field program, which will include day to day management of one or more Environmental Inspectors during construction of a large, complex infrastructure project.
You will work collaboratively with the Environmental Compliance Officer to document the preparation and submission of environmental documents and reports, review and manage response to Metrolinx comments, liaise with design and construction teams for communicating and resolving environmental compliance related matters.
Responsibilities include managing schedules, reviewing drawings, coordinating inputs and deliverables, and maintaining documentation. As the Environmental Lead you will be challenged to undertake field audits, participate in non-conformance processes and direct the implementation of preventative and corrective actions to drive continual improvement of field programs consistent with the ISO 14001 standard.
Responsibilities•All aspects of the environmental field program, including management of 1 ore more environmental inspectors
•Measuring field program and compliance against the ISO 14001 standard as outlined in the TGP Environmental Management System, including participation in field and office based audits.
•Develop and manage all aspects of a field tracking and compliance registry.
•Management responsibilities for environment field inputs to the Environmental Software Solution for reference by Metrolinx and the Project Environment Team.
•Work with Construction Team staff to ensure that identified environmental issues are addressed promptly and environmental requirements are being met.
•Complete monitoring and inspection reports and upload them to the appropriate storage location.
•Determine the nature of environmental deficiencies and provide recommended actions to ensure compliance and prevent or mitigate potential environmental impacts.
•Promptly provide advice and recommendations, as required, for improving environmental protection and correcting any inefficient practices and/or issues of non-compliance.
•Investigate environmental incidents and public complaints related to environmental matters, and effectively report findings and recommendations.
•Effectively communicate and share information with various TGP Teams.
•Attend weekly and monthly meetings with the Environmental, Design and Construction Teams.
•Support environmental third-party vendors at the project site as needed.
•Supervision, coordination and reporting of spills and remedial activities.
•Provide Environmental Awareness and Orientation Training through on-site toolbox talks and procedure rollouts and advise project team members in support of environmental compliance requirements.
•Promote environmental awareness of the EMS and DMCA environmental requirements.
•Support, on occasion, limited night or weekend works as may be required from time to time.
•Support the development of the monthly Environmental Report; Works Report; Groundwater & Dewatering Report; and the Site-Specific Dewatering and Discharge Plan.
•Support the development of the presentation materials for the bi-weekly Environmental Work Group meetings, including presenting materials as required.
Qualifications• A minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated working experience in all aspects of environmental monitoring / mitigation during transportation project construction, specifically with respect to work in and around watercourses and in the application and correction of erosion and sedimentation control measures, reporting Spills and the containment of effluent and dust during construction, and with projects in the Province of Ontario of a similar scope and complexity to this Project.
•Hold certification as a Canadian Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CAN-CISEC)
•The ability to liaise with specialty consultants, contractors and Governmental Authorities, demonstrating strong communication skills and confidence interacting with key contacts in verbal, written and electronic form.
•Capable of listening carefully, presenting information clearly in an appropriate style, and able to persuade others in straightforward situations.
•Strong organizational and planning skills, detail oriented, superior analytical and written skills.
•Able to integrate past experiences and lessons learned to new situations.
•Willingness to work on a construction site environment in all seasons and weather, as well as the ability to use stairs, ladders and climb over rough terrain.
•Willingness to contribute actively in a team environment.
