Summary

The typical season for this position is April - September but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. The anticipated entry on duty is April 2026.
Major Duties
If selected you will work as a Biological Science Technician (Wildlife) GS-0404-06 or 07 at Kenai Fjords National Park. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Conducting surveys for birds (including seabirds, shorebirds, raptors, land birds, etc.) or mammals (bats, bears, marine mammals, etc.). Assisting with planning, conducting, analyzing data, and writing reports on a variety of wildlife-oriented biological surveys, monitoring, and research activities. Performs a wide variety of complex biological science technical support functions under the supervision of a professional specialist. Plans study design and field sampling schemes, logistical arrangements, assists with field work, data entry and analysis, and assist with reports or other documents related to the project. Wildlife surveys, potential handling of live animals and carcasses, GPS mapping, GIS data management, map production, data entry, and managing and manipulating digital images and web or journal-based research. Additional duties may include assisting with other natural resource management projects; maintaining and repairing field equipment; preparing for field trips; communicating resource management topics to park staff and visitors; and working with supervisor oversight to implement bear-human interaction management, including conducting/leading aversive conditioning on black or brown bears. In addition to the duties above, duties at the GS-07 grade level include but are not limited to the following: Complete reports or other documents related to projects.
