Major Responsibilities:• Provide on-site leadership, oversight, and support as part of a crew implementing tasks within ecological restoration projects with a focus on engaging community participants and volunteers in ‘hands-on” stewardship activities• Performs field work, liaising with the supervisor and other team members to coordinate field work activities to ensure work is completed in compliance with TRCA policies, standards and timelines.• Participate in and/or leads daily safety meetings including tailgate meetings, hazard identification and emergency planning.• Assisting Technicians with reviewing, assessing, and adjusting program protocols as needed.• Participating in meetings and site visits as required.• Ensures quality control checks and tests are instigated, with records maintained and accessible. • Assists with maintenance of equipment and vehicles, performs circle and other health and safety checks. Reports potential maintenance requirements to supervisor.• Operates machinery and equipment required to execute work duties related to specific project/program area (i.e., line trimmers, RTVs, tractors, and walk behind mowers etc.)• Participates in other duties as assigned.• Requirements of the role require consistent movement and physicality, such as walking, stretching, jumping, swimming, digging, lifting (up to 20kgs) /pushing/pulling items, cleaning, working on vegetation or other general strain • Incumbents may also be assigned other duties.
What will you need to succeed:Education (degree/diploma/certifications) • Completion of college diploma in Resource Management, Ecological Restoration or Management, Environmental or Engineering Science, Landscape Design, Forestry, Construction, or a related field• Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license• Valid Standard First Aid & CPR/AED Level C Certification
Experience • 2+ years of experience in implementation tasks in areas of specialization.
Knowledge/Skill/Ability• The ability to demonstrate strong problem-solving skills in a field environment; is able to break down site required activities and delegate and estimate time / resources / budget required to complete tasks• Familiar with basic equipment and power tools • Ability to communicate effectively with tact and courtesy• Demonstrated ability to proactively identify problems in a timely manner, seeking the appropriate level of support to solve issues • Proficiency in MS Office suite including online software such as MS Teams, WebEx, and SharePoint• Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, related Regulations and legislation• Required to lift or carry objects that could weigh up to 45lbs
