Major Responsibilities:
• Oversees the application of appropriate herbicides following best management practices as a licensed pesticide applicator• Executes on a number of general field work duties related to specific project/program area• Collects and inputs field data according to project scope• Ensures that quality control and assurance measures are followed at all steps of the work process• Assists with the transportation of materials to and from sites as required• Operates appropriate machinery and equipment required to execute work duties related to specific project/program area• Directs the public to project notice signage and possibly providing contact information for additional information and inquiries, referring detailed questions and complaints to supervisor• Leads daily safety meetings including tailgate meetings, hazard identification and emergency planning and assists with maintenance of equipment and vehicles, performs circle and other health and safety checks• Incumbents may also be assigned other duties
What will you need to succeed:Education (degree/diploma/certifications) • Completion of college diploma in Resource Management, Ecological Restoration or Management, Environmental or Engineering Science, Landscape Design, Forestry, Construction, or a related field• Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license• Pesticide exterminator license (Forestry and/or Landscape). • Knowledge of pesticide legislation and invasive species best management practices and are comfortable working with herbicides.
Experience • 2+ years of experience in implementation tasks in areas of specialization.
Knowledge/Skill/Ability• The ability to demonstrate strong problem-solving skills in a field environment; is able to break down site required activities and delegate and estimate time / resources /budget required to complete tasks• Good communication and interpersonal skills and ability to lead a team and participate as team member• Proficiency in MS Office for general office communications (I.e., mail, spreadsheet and word processing software, including online enablement software such as MS teams, Excel, Word, SharePoint and knowledge of ESRI ArcMap and Field Maps is an asset)• Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, related Regulations and legislation• Knowledge of native and invasive plants with proficient plant identification skills• Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public• Requirements of the role require consistent movement and physicality, such as walking, stretching, jumping, digging, lifting (up to 45 lbs) /pushing/pulling items, cleaning, working on vegetation or other general strain
