Department of Transportation
RESEARCH DATA SPECIALIST II
Job Description and Duties
Under general direction of a Senior Transportation Surveyor (or equivalent), the GIS Lead and Data Analyst's main function is to design spatial applications using the Department's geospatial analytical tools (e.g., ESRI GIS applications, MS SQL Server, Oracle) to deliver processes and products that solve complex problems and provide information to management. The incumbent will also oversee other products developed by peers and provide support and data for other staff to complete their duties. The incumbent will develop and utilize methodology and techniques where precedents are lacking and a sparse body of knowledge exists.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Lead the GIS development for the District 6 GIS and Project Support branch by seeking out opportunities to expand and improve existing project reporting using advanced processes and visualizations (e.g., GIS mapping and dashboards, Tableau dashboards).
Lead and support the development of data models used as the back end data source for others in their GIS and visualizations effort. This entails developing and supporting GIS REST services and database tables supporting project locations and project status details. Customers may exist within any branch, District or Headquarters Program. This requires the ability to clearly communicate in verbal and written formats, effective organization and high attention to detail.
