The Work You Will Do:
The GIS section of the Resilient Florida Program of the Office of Resilience and Coastal Protection is seeking a full-time Engineering Specialist II. Employee will be responsible for assisting in the coordination, planning, development, maintenance and archival of policies, procedures, practices, and methods for the utilization of the Geographic Information System (GIS) technology for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Office of Resilience and Coastal Protection, Resilient Florida Program.

The Resilient Florida Program was established during the 2021 Legislative Session with the passage of SB1964/HB7019 and the creation of section 380.093, Florida Statutes. This legislation will ensure that communities have the resources they need for resilience planning and project implementation as well as creating a framework for a cohesive, coordinated approach to address the impacts of sea level rise, effects of intensified storms and localized flooding.

Your Specific Responsibilities:
Employee will be responsible for assisting in the coordination, planning, development, maintenance and archival of policies, procedures, practices, and methods for the utilization of the Geographic Information System (GIS) technology for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Office of Resilience and Coastal Protection, Resilient Florida Program.
Employee will perform tasks required to support program staff related to the use and management of geospatial data. Required tasks can include, but not limited to, creating digital maps, rectifying aerial imagery, performing analysis and calculations, data review, digitizing legal descriptions, plotting paper maps, creating reports, troubleshooting GIS software, providing training to program staff, etc.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of concepts, terminology, and techniques related to surveying, mapping and cartography, geodesy, and engineering support as it applies to coastal systems.
- Knowledge of and skills in ESRI GIS-related software including but not limited to ArcGIS Pro, Survey123 Connect, Field Maps, ArcGIS AppStudio, ERDAS.
- Ability to communicate technical information effectively, orally and in writing, to users and information technology personnel.
- Ability to work independently and in a group.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and one year of verifiable related experience, or any combination of post-secondary education or verifiable related experience, as described in this posting, for a total of five years.
- A valid driver’s license.
