KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Minimum 2 – 4 years as an operator in wastewater, steam, or other process plant operations, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Possess mechanical knowledge in order to identify and correct mechanical malfunctions.
- Ability to weld, fit pipe, refurbish equipment, use equipment tools, set and align rotating equipment.
- Working knowledge of shop equipment including but not limited to lathe, drill press and milling machine preferred.
- Ability to wire and unwire motors and perform zero energy check with a multi meter required.
- Knowledge of rigging techniques.
- Ability to recognize operational inconsistencies and hazards in the workplace and display proper judgment in responding to them.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructional manuals, instruction sheets, technical data, work orders and mechanical drawings in English.
- Ability to work directly from mechanical drawings.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of occupational hazards connected with machine shop and general plant practices with emphasis on the necessity of safety policy compliance.
- Ability to operate all fire protection equipment.
- Ability to work varying shifts, holidays, on call duty and emergency call-ins.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions given, either verbally or written.
- Ability to do basic reading, writing, and arithmetic
- Basic computer knowledge preferred.
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
1. Ability to access confined spaces thru standard 12” X 16” man ways.
2. Ability to perform required duties at heights of up to 80 feet.
3. Ability to work under adverse conditions that may require the donning and use of personal protective equipment including but not limited to the following:
- Negative and Positive pressure respirator
- Self contained breathing apparatus
- TYVEC Suit
- Hardhat
- Approved safety shoes
- Eye Protection (corrected or otherwise)
- Chemical protective suit
- Work boots and gloves
- Safety harness
4. Ability to receive, comprehend and utilize required training from OSHA and Company including but not limited to the following:
- First aid and CPR
- Hazcom
- Hazmat
- Hearing conservation
- Confined space entry and rescue
- Lock out/ Tag out
5. Ability to operate powered equipment in a safe and efficient manner including but not limited to industrial forklifts and man lifts.
6. Ability to operate hand and powered tools in a safe and efficient manner while on ground surface as well as at heights.
7. Ability to ascend and descend stairs and stationary vertical ladders as part of normal work activity and emergency egress situations.
8. Ability to perform moderate to heavy weight lifting in a safe manner which includes the ability to lift up to 100 lbs.
9. Ability to move about all areas of the plant, including catwalks, deck grating and uneven surfaces.
