In collaboration with Tulane Law School (TLS), and with the generous support of the Jarod D. Davis Charitable Fund, the Environmental Law Institute (ELI) is hosting the Jarod D. Davis Environmental Equity Externship (JDDE3) for summer 2025.
ELI, in its effort to build the skills and capacity of tomorrow’s leaders, provides opportunities for rising 2L & 3L law students to work closely with ELI experts on domestic and international projects concerning a variety of subjects in environmental law. This ten-week externship will have a particular focus on environmental equity, with several of the extern’s projects striving to, for example, advance environmental rights through public policy development, support overburdened communities on sustainable development planning, and author reports to support community-driven environmental justice efforts. ELI staff will work with externs to hone their professional development and legal skills. A unique element of this externship will be arranged one-on-one conversations with a variety of professionals in environmental law and policy, tailored to the interests and aspirations of the extern, with the objective of conveying advice and providing the externs with a better understanding of the different entities, roles, and opportunities in the field. Additionally, the extern is encouraged to supplement these experiences with the seminars and events that ELI hosts.
The extern will enroll in Tulane’s summer externship course from mid-May to mid-June, completing a minimum of 135 hours of work over 4 weeks and all course requirements under supervision of TLS faculty and the ELI site supervisor. Working onsite (Washington, D.C.) for these 4 weeks is recommended, but it is only required during the subsequent 6-week paid internship period.
