Summary:
The Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Manager for Alaska is responsible for ensuring the organization’s compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards while addressing the unique regulatory and operational challenges of Alaska. This role involves managing relationships with state and federal agencies, such as ADEC, EPA, USCG, and Alaska Chadux Network, while promoting a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence. The HSE Manager collaborates with internal teams and external stakeholders to mitigate risks, prevent incidents, and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures in line with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections to identify and mitigate hazards.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning.
- Coordinate HSE training programs to ensure all employees are knowledgeable about safety protocols and environmental compliance.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory standards.
- Prepare and submit required environmental and safety reports to regulatory agencies. State of Alaska (ADEC), USCG, ABS (American Bureau of Shipping)
- Promote a culture of safety and environmental awareness through engagement and communication initiatives. Control of Work Processes.
- Collaborate with operations teams to integrate HSE considerations into daily activities and project planning. Dry-Dock Shipyards.

Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise:
- Comprehensive understanding of Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation regulations and requirements.
- Expertise in federal environmental and safety standards enforced by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG).
- Familiarity with Alaska Chadux Network standards and other regional maritime environmental protection programs.
- Proven ability to navigate state and federal regulatory landscapes, ensuring compliance and fostering strong relationships with oversight agencies.
- Experience in incident response planning and coordination in line with Alaska-specific protocols.
- Strong background in risk management, including environmental impact assessments and hazardous material handling in remote and challenging conditions.
- Skilled in developing and implementing safety and environmental management systems tailored to Alaska’s unique operational environments.
