Job Description:
The Qawalangin Tribe of Unalaska seeks a dynamic and detail-oriented Geothermal Project Manager to lead the planning, development, and implementation of the Makushin Geothermal Project (MGP). Reporting directly to the Director of Grants Acquisition and Management, the MGP position will oversee the comprehensive Workforce Development Plan (WDP) and Community Education Outreach Program (CEOP), ensuring alignment with the Tribe’s strategic vision for energy stabilization and economic growth. This is a grant-funded position with an approved period of performance until April 15, 2026, with the possibility of transition to a related grant supporting similar infrastructure and development initiatives contingent upon grant funding approval.
Responsibilities Include:
- Project Planning and Management:
- Develop and implement comprehensive WDP and CEOP consistent with MGP objectives.
- Oversee all phases of the project from planning to implementation, ensuring timely achievement of milestones.
- Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Serve as a liaison between tribal leadership, Geothermal Power Partners (GPPs), community members, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Facilitate coordination with oversight and design committees to drive project success.
- Grant Compliance and Reporting:
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, local, and tribal regulations, including workforce planning and education outreach.
- Prepare and submit reports in alignment with grant requirements, including progress updates to the Department of Energy (DOE).
- Workforce Development and Training:
- Lead the development and implementation of training programs for displaced and disadvantaged community members, with a focus on recruitment, retention, and succession planning.
- Collaborate with Tribal Liaisons and community partners to establish on-the-job training and apprenticeship opportunities.
- Community Education and Outreach:
- Design and implement community education programs to increase awareness of geothermal energy and engage youth in STEM initiatives.
- Coordinate educational events, workshops, and field visits to showcase geothermal energy applications.
- Risk and Quality Management:
- Identify potential risks to project timelines and outcomes; implement mitigation strategies.
- Monitor and evaluate project deliverables, incorporating feedback to refine the WDP and CEOP.
Perform other duties as assigned to contribute to the success of the project management initiatives.
- Qualifications:
- Education and Experience:
- A bachelor’s degree in Business Management or a related field is preferred, with an MBA or a Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification preferred.
- 5+ years of project management experience, preferably in renewable energy, environmental projects, or workforce development.
- Demonstrated experience managing federally funded grants, including compliance and reporting.
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and leadership abilities.
- Proficiency in project management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret technical data and develop actionable strategies.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with tribal communities or in rural settings.
- Familiarity with geothermal energy, renewable energy systems, and sustainability practices.
- Understanding of workforce planning methodologies and community outreach principles.
- Work Environment Requirements:
- This position involves both office-based work and field visits, requiring flexibility and adaptability. Travel to project sites and stakeholder meetings will be .
- Must pass a criminal background check.
- Valid Alaska Driver's License preferred.
- Strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
- Alaska based candidate with preference in Unalaska. Will consider the right applicant for remote work with mandatory travel for workshops and conferences.
