JOB SUMMARY: What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position? Salary: $81,956 (Step 01) to $106,541 (Step 10); NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01. In addition to the basic salary listed, the selectee is entitled to a cost of living allowance of 1.69% subject to annual OPM review. MAJOR DUTIES: As a Geologist within the Volcano Science Center, some of your specific duties will include: Applies a variety of processes and analytical methods to the preparation and analysis of field/remote sensing observations and/or laboratory samples. Applies a broad range of geologic and/or geochemical techniques to acquire data and samples. Analyzes and interprets geological and geophysical data and independently carries out detailed investigations. Prepares or contributes technically authoritative reports on geologic and related studies and communicates findings in a variety of formats and settings. Uses relational databases to maintain geologic data for conducting operational and planning analyses. Physical Demands: Some work of the position takes place mostly in an office or laboratory setting. Field work may require working in remote field sites with limited to no services and may require the use of proper personal protective gear. Work may be in dusty, hot, humid, and extreme cold environments, occasional off-road driving of 4-wheel drive vehicles, traveling to remote field sites in helicopters or small fixed wing planes, and/or boats. Lifting of equipment and objects weighing up to 20 kilograms may be necessary. Work Environment: Some work takes place in office or laboratory settings with adequate heat, light, and ventilation.
