JOB SUMMARY: What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position? The Government-Wide direct hire authority for Biological Science GS-0401/Physical Sciences GS-1301 is being used to fill this position. Salary: $162,365 (Step 01) to $191,900 (Step 10). The selectee will be entitled to a cost-of-living allowance of 1.69% in addition to the basic salary subject to annual OPM review. NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01. MAJOR DUTIES: This is an interdisciplinary position that may be filled as a Biologist GS-0401 or Physical Scientist GS-1301. As the Regional Senior Science Advisor within the Alaska Regional Office, some of your specific duties will include: Plan, develop and implement earth science-related science theories and concepts, and information programs. Be responsible for coordination among partners, stakeholders, and interagency efforts to enhance scientific activities within the region. Maintain strong working relationships with regional leadership and staff in the bureau, the Department, other Federal, State, and local governmental agencies. Plan and direct the work of subordinates to include performance management, administering discipline, identifying training needs, and making recommendations for personnel actions. Physical Demands The work is generally sedentary, requiring sitting, bending, walking, and carrying light materials. Occasional participation in field trips, or field activities may occur, requiring prolonged standing, bending, stooping, etc. in order to observe work operations. Some travel is required. Work Environment Work is performed in an office setting. Periodically, work may include field site visits under field conditions to include exertion, such as prolonged standing, bending, stooping, etc. in order to observe work operations.
