Reporting to the Environmental, Health & Safety Manager, the EHS Specialist undertakes the following RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety:
- Coach staff, managers, and contractors in the interpretation and application of internal and regional health and safety regulations.
- Identify non-compliant or incomplete EHS procedures.
- Ensure documentation is completed to support company due diligence in ensuring the safety of employees.
- Support and provide guidance on safety inspections.
- Deliver health and safety training for employees as required.
- Write EHS standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and work instructions to meet EHS legislative requirements
- Collaborate with the EHS team to monitor environmental, safety compliance and identify issues.
- Assist in the investigation of hazard and incident reports to provide recommendations to address safety concerns.
- Provide advice/make recommendations to management on health and safety issues and compliance.
- Proactively identify risks and work with management and employees on preventative actions.
- Works independently with limited supervision and collaborates with others on key initiatives/ projects
- Participates in Ministry of Labour inspections, investigations and reports in conjunction with the appropriate Joint Health & Safety Committee members.
- Participates in and provides expert direction to the Joint Health and Safety Committees for continuous improvement of effectiveness in addressing the root causes of health and safety concerns and hazard recognition and control.
Occupational Health:
- Monitor, analyze and interpret WSIB reports, WSIB COMPASS, accident cost statements and other statistical analysis to monitor the health and wellness of staff and develop strategies to prevent, reduce and minimize the impact of occupational injuries.
- Proactively manage occupational injuries to ensure that staff return to work in a safe and timely manner. Effectively collaborates with all stakeholders to facilitate the return-to-work process by engaging the staff, managers, WSIB, healthcare providers and People Experience Specialists as required.
- Provides support for communicable disease case management.
- Develop strong working relationships with our Health Safety and Environment and People & Culture peers
- Applies knowledgeable investigation and assessment techniques when establishing return to work opportunities and addressing Duty to Accommodate accountabilities.
- Identifies potential cost relief on claims and represents Lush on WSIB claim appeals.
- Collaborates with EHS team members on policy development, process review and disability management initiatives.
- Collaborates with staff and room management teams to complete ergonomic assessments.
- Participates in workplace violence investigations in conjunction with the People & Culture team. Maintains accurate, up to date files.
- Consistently maintains and employs professional standards of practice and standards of ethics.
You bring the following QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience
- Experience working in an occupational safety manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of Ontario workplace safety legislation/WSIB
- Experience building and rolling out Health and Safety programs.
- First Aid Training
- Experience collaborating on projects with cross-functional departments
- Flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills and ability to build lasting relationships
Preferred:
- University degree in Business or Occupational Health
- CRSP Designation (The Canadian Registered Safety Professional) or CHSC (Certified Health & Safety Consultant)
- Experience working in seasonally driven, manufacturing environments in food or cosmetics industries
