In a typical day, you would start by conducting health and safety orientations for new employees and subcontractors. You would explain the safety rules and procedures that everyone needs to follow on the job site. You would also perform inspections of the work site to make sure it's safe and identify any potential hazards. If there are any incidents or injuries, you will be responsible to investigate them and handle any related claims.
You will also plan and coordinate health and safety training sessions. This could include orientations for new hires, training on topics like WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System), CPR/First Aid, and any specialized training that may be necessary. You will also escalate any health, safety, or environmental issues to the site or project leads, as well as divisional managers.
Throughout the day, you will monitor the employees and subcontractors on the site to ensure that they are following the safety procedures, regulatory requirements, and other elements of the management system. You will proactively identify and prevent hazardous situations and communicate them to the site management to take appropriate action.
Additionally, you will provide coaching and support to project managers, supervisors, foremen, and workers regarding HSE requirements. You will also assist in developing, maintaining, and improving HSE programs and processes, while also supporting the overall management system.
Along with that, you will be responsible for providing monthly safety performance reports to management. These reports would include identifying trends, recommending initiatives to reduce incidents, and improving prevention efforts.
Lastly, you will manage relationships with key clients, both internal and external stakeholders, to ensure that everyone is aligned and engaged on matters related to HSE. This may involve regular communication and collaboration to address any concerns or issues that arise.
This is an ideal role for you if you are a passionate HSE professional who is looking to make an impact. You will excel in this role if you enjoy taking initiative, leading tasks, as well as working in team environments.
