Aecon is seeking an Environmental and Sustainability Coordinator to join our Civil East group to support our major projects and corporate sustainability efforts. As an Environmental and Sustainability Coordinator, you will support the environmental management and operationalization of sustainability at Aecon. This role is based out of our Montreal head offices.
What You’ll Do Here:
- Maintain the Environmental Management System and ensure compliance with applicable best practices, regulations, Environmental Management Plans (EMPs), Sustainability Management Plans (SMPs) and project-specific plans, as they relate to construction activities
- Provide reports and attend project-related meetings as required
- Manage data collection, storage and analysis
- Evaluate compliance and support the project team in reviewing applicable standards, contract documents, client commitments and identify sustainability-related risks
- Work with project teams and clients using interpersonal and organizational skills to ensure projects are completed in accordance with an established scope of work, and to identify design strategies aimed at improving energy performance, reducing carbon emissions; provide ongoing analysis through design and construction
- Participate in the implementation of the Envision Sustainability Infrastructure Framework on projects, where required
- Support the implementation of other frameworks - LEED, WELL, Zero Carbon Building Standard certifications, where required
- Answer client and stakeholder requests for information on Aecon’s Sustainability Strategy and performance
- Keep up to date with current and emerging legislative requirements and sources of government incentive funding
- Support the project team directly or through managing external consultants to ensure delivery of sustainability requirements, which may include certification under various sustainability rating systems, climate risk and resiliency, operational energy and carbon, embodied carbon, and construction related site emissions
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the corporate sustainability strategy, vision, and goals, and align project sustainability outcomes with the overall strategy
- Communicate effectively with multiple internal and external stakeholders to establish clear expectations on sustainability requirements, collaborate on objectives, resolve issues, and report on progress and performance
- Drive an inclusive culture to promote equity, welcome different perspectives, and enable career progression by fostering a sense of belonging
- All other tasks, as appropriate
What You Bring to the Team:
- University Degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, or any related field
- Has obtained the ENV-SP (Envision Sustainability Profesionnal) professional designation, a strong asset
- At least 3 years of experience in the environmental, construction or sustainability sector, an asset
- A valid driver’s license is required
- Bilingualism (French and English) is required to commmunicate in both languages as they will be supporting both the Toronto and Montreal offices
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, coordinating resources as well as the ability to solve problems
- Excellent analytic skills and the ability to organize and express ideas clearly
- Strong teamwork skills and ability to develop and foster strong working relationships
- Comfortable with public speaking and presentations
- Take initiative, ownership and work independently with excellent multitasking abilities
- You have the ability to travel to other cities for occasional site visitations throughout Canada based on project portfolio
