Are you a skilled handyman with a knack for general maintenance repairs? Jacksonville Zoo an Gardens is seeking a Facility Maintenance Technician. Our zoo has a long history of over a century and spans over 100+ acres on the Northside of Jacksonville. Our technicians play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity and functionality of the zoo, from preventative maintenance to emergency repairs. They have a pivotal role in ensuring the upkeep of our facilities, providing service, quality, and safety standards while performing various tasks, including installing, inspecting, and repairing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, safety, and waste management systems. You are ready to apply with education or hands-on experience with a year (1) of experience to thrive in a fast-paced environment. You can flex based on the needs of an organization and be passionate about working alongside others dedicated to enhancing our facilities. Imagine working in an indoor and outdoor atmosphere 363 days a year, surrounded by wildlife and lush gardens, completing exciting projects such as refurbishing our splash pad or animal habitats like our Lorikeet building.

What We’re Looking For:
- Ability to work a schedule that includes a Saturday or Sunday.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Florida Driver’s license with clear driving record.
- Proficient skills to read and accurately interpret measurements using a measuring tape.

Ability to compute fractions and perform basic math calculations.

Six (6) months’ experience in a similar role and/or vocational/trade school or on-the-job training.

One (1) year of education or hands-on experience in general repairs, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and painting.
- Six (6) months’ experience in apartment, building, or multi-unit maintenance.
A Plus...
- Experience operating large equipment forklift, cherry picker, etc...
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to operate motorized cart, large equipment/ trucks, hand, and power tools.
- Ability to work outdoors and indoors under all environmental conditions and temperatures.
- Ability to transport and move items up to 50 pounds frequently for short distances.
- Ability to ascend/ descend ladders, steps, and uneven terrain, while maintaining body equilibrium while performing various jobs.
- Ability to consistently remain on feet for prolonged periods of time.
- Exceptional visual acuity required, along with the ability to communicate, comprehend and decipher information accurately, using a two-way radio.
- Manual dexterity for standing, reaching, flexibility, and body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling, stoop, bend, lift, kneel, crawl, climb, jump, dig and prolonged standing.
- Grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying size and weight, requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to access and navigate each department at the organization on foot and/or by a motorized cart.
- Visual and auditory acuity appropriate plant care for safety and to discern differences in documents/labels.
