Opportunity
e-Zinc is searching for a highly motivated and experienced Battery Simulation Specialist to join our Engineering department in the Greater Toronto Area. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in developing and implementing machine learning algorithms, particularly for battery systems, and experience with time series data.
Reporting to the Battery Simulation & Data Science Lead, this role will focus on state estimation, anomaly detection, and battery system modelling, with the opportunity to work on the development of a digital twin for battery systems. The position requires close collaboration with scientists and engineers across departments to gather necessary parameters and data for model validation and testing. Experience with MATLAB Simulink, CFD simulation, and Azure cloud is highly advantageous.
Position Scope and Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement advanced machine learning algorithms for battery system state estimation.
- Utilize historical and real-time data to improve the accuracy and reliability of state estimation models.
- Collaborate with data scientists, battery experts, and cross-functional teams to refine and optimize algorithms based on experimental data and validation results.
- Analyze time series data from battery systems to identify patterns, trends, and anomalies affecting performance and longevity.
- Develop predictive models to forecast battery behavior under various operating conditions.
- Contribute to the development of a digital twin by integrating machine learning algorithms with existing battery simulation models across domains such as electrochemistry, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and solid mechanics.
- Work on CFD simulations of air and electrolyte flow as part of the broader system modeling efforts.
Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (Ph.D. is a plus).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in battery system simulation.
- Expertise in developing and implementing machine learning algorithms.
- Proficiency in Python and machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
- Strong experience in MATLAB Simulink for simulation and model integration.
- Proficiency in handling and analyzing time series data.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret simulation results, identify performance issues, and suggest improvements.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
An Asset:
- Experience with battery chemistry and materials, particularly in electrochemistry.
- Familiarity with cloud services for data handling, deployment, and analysis.
- Experience with CFD simulations for air and fluid dynamics is a plus.
