As a EHS Intern, you will be a valued member of the Atura Power EHS Team. Located at our central office in Oakville, this is a great opportunity to join the team which provides environment, and health & safety support for our four natural gas generating stations, including projects, incidents, and ongoing business improvements. The team is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of EHS strategies, programs, systems, processes, and tools in collaboration with Atura Power.
During your work-term (12-16 months), you will learn a variety of EHS functions and participate in operations support and improvement projects that relate to our role in Atura. You will be exposed to Atura's entire portfolio of power generation assets and the programs utilized to manage these assets throughout Ontario.
Placement Date: May 5, 2025 - April 25, 2026 (or 16 months to August 28, 2026)
Based on your interest, background and skillset, projects may include:
- EHS Management Planning
- Incident Management
- Policy, Procedure, and Standards development and Implementation
- Environmental compliance and permitting
- Track and analyze incidents and trends to improve business performance
- EHS Audits and Inspections
Responsibilities:
- Provide EHS support for operational issues – this may involve spending time in the power plant working with operations, inspections, and investigations.
- Provide EHS support for the planning and execution of plant outages, overhauls, and other capital projects
- Work closely with the Safety and Environmental Specialists to support the ongoing EHS project work.
- Analyze, assess, and record EHS events and issues through incident management practices and the good catch program
- Ensure relevant documentation is retained and shared in accordance with company expectations.
- Gain exposure to the power generation industry
- Perform other related duties as business needs arise and your skills and interests align
Job Qualifications, Required:
- Must be enrolled in an Occupational Health and Safety program or an Environmental program.
- Must be enrolled in a post-secondary institution’s co-op program
- Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook and Visio (or similar spreadsheet, database, and e-mail software) is required
- Have and maintain a valid G driver's license
- Use of a personal vehicle as Atura’s sites are not accessible via public transit.
- Provide proof of vaccination against Covid-19 or proof of valid medical exemption.
Preferred:
- EHS industry experience
- Familiarity and interest in Environment, Health, and Safety in power generation
