JOB SUMMARY: This position is part of the Hanford Field Office, Department of Energy. As a INTERDISCIPLINARY Supervisory General Engineer/Physical Scientist, you will serve as supervisor and the on-site senior technical representative responsible for evaluating contractor environmental, nuclear safety, operations, safety, and health contract compliance within an assigned DOE facility. MAJOR DUTIES: As a INTERDISCIPLINARY Supervisory General Engineer/Physical Scientist, you will: Utilize scientific and engineering theories, principles, and practical concepts, systems, and processes of safety, to conduct daily on-site performance-based evaluations of facilities and operations against contract rules, laws, and regulations. Make informed judgments needing an expert level of technical competence regarding safety of operations. These operations occur in highly complex, unique facilities with hazards to workers, the public, and the environment that are non-routine and carry potentially significant harmful consequences. Resolve highly technical engineering challenges. Monitor contractor performance for trends and programmatic weaknesses and recommends long-term enhancements to ensure the continued safe conduct of operations utilizing extensive knowledge of safety engineering. Provide administrative and technical supervision to a multi-function staff. Provide advice, counsel, and instruction to employees. Interviews candidates and make selections for subordinate positions.
