Job Description and Duties
Under the supervision of an IT Manager I, the incumbent serves as a Storage and Backup Administrator supporting the following areas: Data Storage, Data Protection and Disaster Recovery.
MAJOR FUNCTIONS:
The incumbent provides administrative and technical support of Caltrans Data Storage, Data Protection, and Disaster Recovery environments. The incumbent provides support for all phases of end user device life cycle management including procurement, deployment, installation, configuration, maintenance and operations, and surplus. The incumbent collaborates with peers and management to update and recommend standards, processes and procedures, and technology practices. The incumbent tracks, monitors, and audits IT assets to maintain accountability using standard asset management tools and techniques in compliance with the State Administrative Manual and other applicable policies and regulations. The incumbent also performs functions including, but are not limited to, researching, writing, reporting, presenting.

Desirable Qualifications
In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
- Ability to maintain all backup and SAN related hardware and software.
- Experience provisioning and configuring SAN, Backups, and storage infrastructure.
- Knowledge in the recovery of critical data during the event of a disaster or data file corruption.
- Ability to configure backup, SAN, storage hardware and software to achieve maximum efficiency and security.
- Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and fix technical issues as they arise for the department.
- Can monitor SAN, storage, and backup performance and operations to ensure that they are meeting DOT standards and expectations.
- Knowledge of tuning performance issues for SAN, storage, backup and Cloud systems.
- Ability to provide consultation on some of the department’s technical projects.
- Experience researching, creating, and maintaining documentation for a team.
- Knowledgeable in vSphere 7.0/8.0, TCP/IP, firewall rules, DMZ, Active Directory, Windows 2022 system administration.
