Job Description and Duties
Under the direction of the Branch Chief of Systems Development, a Senior Transportation Electrical Engineer (Supervisor), the incumbent, a Transportation Engineer (Electrical), serves as the Electrical Plans and Specifications Engineer in the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Electrical Engineering Services Branch.
The incumbent reviews, develops, approves, and standardizes specifications, plans, and Non-Standard Special Provisions (NSSP’s) for Transportation Management System (TMS) elements, communication networks, and other electronic/electrical systems utilized in traffic signal operations, traffic surveillance and management, highway lighting, operation, and control of freeway electrical equipment.
Candidates are required to review the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) for this classification. If you meet MQs under Pattern II and require the TE Electrical in-person written hurdle exam, DO NOT TAKE the TE Electrical online exam prior to passing the written hurdle. Candidates who take the TE Electrical online exam prior to passing the written hurdle may negatively impact their hiring eligibility. Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Transportation Engineer (Electrical) exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Special Requirements
- Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle.
- Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Electrical) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. For all other ranges, a PE license is not required.
- Statement of Qualification (SOQ) is required.
The SOQ is a narrative of the education, training, skills, and experience that best qualify a candidate for the position. The SOQ also serves as documentation of the candidate’s ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. The SOQ must be no more than two (2) pages in length and must address the following questions in the same order as listed below. Resumes are accepted but are not required. Resumes do not take the place of STD 678 Application or SOQ. Applicants who do not follow these instructions will not be considered for this job.
