Supporting the ING Difference strategy, the Sustainable Value Chains (SVC) Sector team is a transition incubator for new technologies and business models across sustainable value chains. At the moment, SVC is focused on the following emerging industries which are critical to the development of the new value chains required for a sustainable economy: battery value chains, charging networks, circular economy, nature-based solutions, cleantech.
The Global Head of SVC will be responsible for the strategic and commercial direction of the transition incubator, overseeing the development of new sustainable asset classes for the bank. To target the commercial efforts, the Global Head of SVC closely collaborates with (i) the CCO and other global Sector Coverage heads, and (ii) Risk stakeholders to establish the financial and non-financial risk appetite, and to manage therein.
The global head drives differentiation of the SVC proposition versus competitors by establishing and managing sector strategy plans across all regions. This involves managing P&L, managing & growing the global team steering commercial direction via the SVC Commercial Platform and Greenlight Committee, managing financial risk and returns by approving deals/reviews using the SVC A2 Front Office Mandate, managing risk weighted assets in line with ING risk appetite and frameworks, and internally and externally managing communications and stakeholders to build an enabling environment for the transition.
The Team
Global Head of Sustainable Value Chains (SVC) role is responsible for a team of currently 12 FTE. The Head of SVC is also a member of the Sectors MT and reports hierarchical into the Country Head of Sectors and functionally into the Global Head of Sectors.
Key responsibilities
Setting the strategic direction for SVC globally. Ensuring it is aligned with the overall ING WB strategy, to deliver objectives set by the MBB and strengthen commercial performance within risk appetite. Set and develop long term plans for the Sustainable Value Chains business, and identify growth opportunities and drive differentiation of customer value proposition vs competitors. Identifying new trends, technologies and business models which support the transition.
Direct the implementation of the Sustainable Value Chains business strategy in coordination and alignment with the Head of Sector Coverage, regional Sector Coverage heads, global functional heads, and the stakeholders in Risk (including non-financial) and Products.
Full P&L responsibility for the SVC business across ING globally. Steering the commercial pipeline by chairing the SVC Greenlight Committee and SVC Commercial Platform (cross-sector & cross-product platform).
Managing financial risk and returns by approving new deals, credit reviews and material credit modifications with the A2 SVC Front Office Credit Mandate.
Develop and manage the Dynamic Plan, and further develop potential opportunities - emphasizing profitable growth in line with strategy.
Establish and maintain the required operational infrastructure (i.e. booking offices, sector segmentation) to facilitate commercial activity.
Managing financial and non-financial risks. Maintain robust risk culture and performance of the Sustainable Value Chains sector. Ensure regulatory compliance in line with ING procedures.
Oversee the development of new sustainable asset classes within ING's Economic Sectors and Risk Appetite.
External representation of ING and thought leadership in SVC's areas of commercial activity. Acts as a face of the sector to represent it both externally, taking up an advocacy role to create an enabling environment for the transition. Ensuring that ING is positioned as the Best European Bank and as a sustainability pioneer.
Support relationship managers in senior level dialogues with clients.
Lead and manage a growing team of professionals, which includes hiring, training, coaching/mentoring, compensation, and performance management. Lead a high value specialist team consisting of people based in different locations across the globe, creating a united team vision, creating diversity within the team’s composition and role-modelling/fostering inclusion and belonging. Growing the team globally by setting up SVC teams in locations outside Amsterdam (i.e. Americas, APAC).
Support the overall banking business of ING which is dependent on commercial and non-commercial relationships with other financial institutions in order to deliver banking products and services to our Wholesale and Retail banking clients.
Your required experience
We are looking for a Head of Sustainable Value Chains who has a strong understanding of the banking industry, WB market & extensive knowledge of ING WB products and risk management. You are a people manager that can act as global leader in a complex matrix organisation.
Next to that you recognize yourself in the following profile:
15-20 years’ work experience in the financial industry, min. 5 years in a senior leadership role
Experience of working with sustainable or transition industries is highly desirable.
International experience is preferred.
Proven track record of steering an end-to-end organization.
Strong commercial acumen and ability to execute.
Proven experience in developing & implementing new organizational strategies.
Disciplined approach to managing both credit risk and non-financial risks relevant to the sector
Highly experienced in complex stakeholder management
Good knowledge/experience of regulatory requirements and risks (financial & non- financial) for the sector
