Job Summary:
The Event & Sales Manager at the Mississippi Aquarium is responsible for driving revenue through group sales, event management, and consignment ticket programs. This role will focus on managing and promoting events, enhancing the Aquarium’s online presence (relative to group offerings), and leading a small team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for event planning, sales, and customer service, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Event Inquiries & Sales:
- Promptly respond to inquiries regarding dinners, receptions, and other private events at the Aquarium.
- Develop and maintain relationships with clients to maximize sales opportunities.
- Website Management:
- Own the Group Sales and Events pages on the Aquarium’s website.
- Keep content current, engaging, and optimized to attract site visitors and drive inquiries.
- Team-Building Program:
- Build and actively promote a corporate team-building program that includes packaging unique VIP experiences at the Aquarium.
- Work closely with the marketing team to ensure the program is well-publicized and aligned with overall brand messaging.
- Consignment Ticket Sales Program:
- Develop and manage a consignment ticket sales program in partnership with local hotels, military bases, and other relevant partners.
- Track and report on program performance, adjusting strategies as needed to meet sales targets.
- Event Management:
- Manage all events at the Aquarium, including those for external clients and marketing-driven events such as Bluey, HWSOS, and the Changing Tides Festival.
- Oversee the planning, execution, and post-event analysis to ensure successful outcomes.
- Set-Up & Tear-Down Coordination:
- Source labor for event set-up and tear-down and manage these operations to ensure smooth execution.
- Work with vendors and in-house teams to ensure all logistical aspects are covered.
- Team Leadership:
- Manage the Event Coordinator and oversee the new, robust birthday program.
- Provide guidance, support, and performance feedback to ensure the team meets its goals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, Hospitality Management, or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in event planning, sales, or related roles.
- Proven track record in managing multiple large-scale events and driving revenue through sales programs.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Must be willing and available to work holidays, weekends and evenings.
- Proficiency in CRM systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and event management software.
