Under general direction of a Deputy Chief Counsel, Assistant Chief Counsel and/or Attorney Supervisor, the Attorney III studies, interprets and applies laws, court decisions, and other authorities in the preparation of cases, opinions and briefs; prepares and presents cases for trial; and/or does a variety of transactional work.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Attorney III or Attorney exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Job Description and Duties
The Los Angeles Legal Office is looking for a Attorney III full-time litigator, a highly motivated individual who wants to work in a multi-faceted law office representing the California Department of Transportation. The candidate will join our Real Property section with practice areas that include: Eminent Domain and Inverse Condemnation. Other practice areas may include: Tort, Environmental Law, Employment, Construction Arbitration, appellate Practice and in-house transactional work. Our attorneys represent the Department in State and Federal courts in all phases of litigation and trial work. They also advise and assist the Department in delivering projects. Junior attorneys will be assigned to a practice group and are trained in all aspects of the practice. They are given early exposure to discovery, depositions and trial as well as legal research and pleadings. Mid-level attorneys and are expected to handle all aspects of a case including discovery, trial and appellate work.
