Job Description and Duties
Working under the supervision of a Caltrans Maintenance Area Superintendent, incumbent coordinates and assigns work of employees engaged in the maintenance of travel way and/or landscape of the State Highways. Enforces safety and health policies and procedures as contained in the Department’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP); knowledge of environmental, storm water, emergencies, natural disaster, accident prevention techniques, principles of effective supervision and safe work practices. Applications will be screened and only most qualified will be considered.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the CALTRANS MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Working Conditions
Position located in Los Angeles County. Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment. Required to work in a wide range of sometimes extreme conditions, including heat up to 120 degrees, cold to –15 degrees, strong winds, rain, sleet, and snow. During the winter months the workweek is normally 5/8-hour days. The scheduling of the 5/8 days is at the discretion of the Region Management. Incumbent may be scheduled to work the night shift as needed to meet operational needs. May be requested to work scheduled and/or emergency overtime due to storms, callback, special work projects, or to meet operational needs.

Desirable Qualifications
- Possession of a valid and unrestricted Class A or Class B commercial driver license with P (Passenger/Bus), H (Hazardous Materials), and N (Tank Vehicle) endorsements and possession of a qualified applicator certificate for pesticides issued by CAL-EPA.
