Summary of Job Duties:
Supports developing department of EOS (Environmental & Occupation Safety) The position reports to Director of Environmental & Occupational Safety.
Qualifications:
Required Education and/or Work Experience: Minimum qualifications include an associate's degree in chemistry, biology, physics, engineering, occupational health and safety, or related fields. Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for part of these requirements.
Preferred Education and/or Work Experience: Preferred education includes a bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and/or Occupational Safety or related fields; at least two years of working health and safety-related experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: To perform the job successfully, the following competencies are required for the essential functions of this position:
- Comprehensive knowledge of environmental and occupational safety and health
- Special knowledge of and/or experience in one or more the following areas: chemical hygiene and laboratory safety, radiation safety and health physics, biological safety, job safety, fire and life safety
- •Knowledge of fire and life safety codes and of regulatory requirements imposed by the
- Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ), and Arkansas Department of Health (ADH), and of Occupational Safety and Health
- Administration (OSHA) standards as adopted by the Arkansas
Summary of Job Duties:
- Responsible for managing emergency, compliance, and training programs. Programs will be developed in compliance with state and federal regulations regarding hazardous materials, occupational safety, fire safety, air quality testing, conduct laboratory audits and other related programs. Document deficiencies that are deemed unsafe or contradict environmental or safety protocols.
- Collect chemical, hazardous, universal waste from departments
- Routine investigation of safety & environmental concerns/complaints
- Assist with/conduct safety training as well as maintaining safety documents; Ability to complete Hazardous Material, Manifest, and other required training which may be required by law.
- Provide technical and administrative support for the EOS Program
- Routine Safety Systems Inspection to include but not limited to: Fire Extinguishers, Emergency Lighting, Exit Signs, Smoke/Heat Detectors, Eyewashes, Safety Showers, and other Building Devices
- Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to foster teamwork.
- Requires consistent on-time attendance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Additional Information:
Working Relationships: The EOS Specialist will interact with a variety of personnel on campus. They will closely work with the Physical Plant Personnel, Public Safety, and the department managers of all laboratories that produce hazardous and medical waste on campus.
Special Job Dimensions: Able to bend, stoop, push, pull and stand for up to 8 hours each day. There will be some exposure to inclement weather. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision when focusing on a computer screen. Employee regularly talks and hears. Employee occasionally lifts items up to 50 pounds. Routine work schedule Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm with occasional overtime and travel required

$45,000-$55,000/year
