We are seeking an experienced Environmental Risk Manager to lead the establishment and governance of an Environmental Risk Management unit. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in setting up and managing environmental risk frameworks and units, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and driving strategic environmental risk initiatives. This role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders to integrate environmental risk management into the organization's broader risk management framework.
Key Responsibilities:
Unit Establishment and Governance:
- Lead the design, setup, and implementation of a dedicated Environmental Risk Management unit within the organization.
- Develop and enforce governance structures, policies, and procedures for the new unit, ensuring alignment with organizational and regulatory requirements.
Environmental Risk Framework Development:
- Develop a comprehensive environmental risk management framework, including risk identification, assessment, mitigation, and monitoring strategies.
- Ensure the framework is integrated into the organization’s overall risk management strategy and supports sustainable business practices.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure the Environmental Risk Management unit complies with all relevant environmental laws, regulations, and standards.
- Monitor changes in environmental regulations and assess their impact on the organization, advising on necessary adjustments to policies and practices.
Risk Assessment and Analysis:
- Conduct detailed environmental risk assessments across various operations and projects, identifying potential environmental impacts and risks.
- Provide expert analysis and recommendations to mitigate identified risks, ensuring the organization’s activities align with environmental sustainability goals.
Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:
- Engage with key internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, to ensure effective communication and collaboration on environmental risk issues.
- Prepare and deliver regular reports and presentations to senior leadership, highlighting key environmental risks, mitigation strategies, and compliance status.
Training and Capacity Building:
- Develop and deliver training programs to build organizational capacity in environmental risk management.
- Mentor and guide junior team members within the Environmental Risk Management unit, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor the effectiveness of the Environmental Risk Management unit and its initiatives.
- Regularly review and report on the unit's performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing necessary changes.
Continuous Improvement:
- Drive continuous improvement in environmental risk management practices, leveraging industry best practices and emerging trends.
- Lead initiatives to enhance the organization’s environmental sustainability and resilience to environmental risks.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Risk Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree or relevant professional certification (e.g., CRMA, CERM) is highly desirable.
- Proven experience in environmental risk management, with a focus on establishing and governing environmental risk management units.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing environmental risk frameworks, policies, and procedures.
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, compliance requirements, and best practices.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management abilities, with experience engaging with senior leadership and regulatory bodies.
