Job Description Summary
The Performance Design and Methods (PDM) team is a critical pillar within the Performance Engineering organization and sits at the intersection of engineering, commercial and digital world. Members of the team are responsible for defining the performance capabilities for all GEV gas turbines for both new units and upgrades. The team is responsible for building and releasing thermodynamic cycle models in support of product development and product application, supporting product validation testing in the test stand and field, and driving customer issue resolution. PDM team is seeking a Lead Engineer to support and own steady state thermodynamic performance calculations for heavy frame gas turbines.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Create gas turbine performance models to support new unit sales and aftermarket conversions, modifications or upgrades. The primary focus will be B and E class and depending on the business requirements other frames also need to be covered
- Be a data champion, use fleet experience to drive updates in performance models and project risk assessments
- Participate in gas turbine performance optimization exercises that maximize product value while balancing competing product requirements
- Support gas turbine validation testing, field tuning and product service/relevant engineering teams
- Serve as the point-of-contact for all NPI performance related items for B and E class gas turbine frame(s)
- Drive unit and/or system level functional performance to deliver customer solutions
- Participate in the research, design, development, and enhancement of technologies in the areas of performance/operability
- Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments
- Document technical data consistent with engineering policies and procedures
- Develop new ideas to make the process lean and efficient for faster response times and better quality
- Support new unit sales and aftermarket performance applications engineering teams.
- Develop the skills and competencies of team members. Mentor less experienced engineers
- Proactively lead/support new initiatives including developing and protecting the Intellectual Property of GEV to enable impactful energy transition
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering or equivalent
- Minimum two years of gas turbine performance analysis experience or equivalent
- Working knowledge of thermodynamics/thermal performance of power generation systems/power plant operations
- Hands on experience in Microsoft Office Applications like MS Excel and MS PowerPoint
- Excellent written and oral communication skills (English) to convey technical concepts to business and technical personnel
Desired Characteristics
Technical Expertise:
- Master's Degree in Mechanical engineering or equivalent and/or EEDP graduate
- Working knowledge of thermodynamic modeling & simulation software
- Experience working with field data and information
- Design of experiment and numerical optimization experience
- Demonstrated design creativity and problem-solving capability
