Business Developer – Utility-Scale Projects with a Leading IPP in Johannesburg

Our client, a respected IPP recognised for its high-quality, large utility-scale projects and exceptional workplace culture, is seeking a dynamic and driven Business Developer. This is a unique opportunity for a visionary Business Developer with a hunter mentality and a strategic mindset. This role is intended to evolve into a senior management or directorship role, providing significant career growth for a high-caliber candidate.

Duties & Responsibilities

Market & Project Development: Identify and evaluate renewable energy project opportunities (greenfield or acquisition) aligning with the company’s expansion strategy.
Business Strategy & Analysis: Conduct in-depth market, feasibility, and financial analyses to determine project viability, ensuring alignment with financial goals and risk tolerance.
Stakeholder Engagement & Negotiation: Build relationships with key stakeholders, including landowners, government agencies, and potential partners. Lead negotiation efforts on project terms, legal contracts, and partnership agreements.
Cross-Functional Leadership: Collaborate with internal teams, including engineering, finance, and legal, to streamline project development, from initial assessment to financial close.
Risk Management: Assess and mitigate risks through a structured approach to business development, ensuring compliance with regulations and company standards.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Finance, or Law; advanced degree or certification in a related field is a plus.
Experience: At least 5-7 years in senior business development role within the renewable energy sector, with a proven track record in managing large, complex projects.
Skills: Excellent analytical abilities, negotiation prowess, and familiarity with South Africa's energy regulations. Prior M&A experience in renewable projects is advantageous.
Personality: Self-motivated, driven, and strategic thinker with a keen interest in leading transformative projects in the energy sector.

R 1.5 - R 2.5 million pa
